It was announced back in April that The Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert would be leaving his long-time post at Comedy Central for CBS to take over The Late Show from retiring David Letterman. The Colbert Report series finale aired last month, at which time it was only known that the new Late Show with Stephen Colbert would start up some time in 2015.
Now, it looks like Colbert will return to late-night television this Fall!
Late Show with Stephen Colbert will premiere on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, according to CBS, who announced the news today in California during the Television Critics Association’s winter TV previews.
Format for the show has yet to be finalized, as development has only just begun, but Late Show will reportedly have music and guests. Whether Colbert, who will be doing the show as himself, not as his idiotic news pundit character from the The Colbert Report, will be doing an opening monologue has yet to be decided.
After a 22-year run, David Letterman’s final show at the historic Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City will broadcast on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, with the network planning to air reruns of Late Show With David Letterman in the 11:35pm timeslot throughout the Summer.
