Melissa Benoist

We learned back in September that CBS would be bringing a live-action Supergirl series to the small screen.

Now, the series has found its super lead in Melissa Benoist, according to Vulture, who reports that the Glee star will play 24-year-old Kryptonian Kara Zor-El.

Aside from being a cast member of TV’s Glee, the 26-year-old Benoist also had a small role as Miles Teller’s love interest in the Academy Award-nominated Whiplash and appeared in two episodes of Showtime’s Homeland.

Greg Berlanti (Arrow) will executive produced the DC Comics-based drama, which will see Kara from the dying planet Krypton arrive on Earth, where she’s taken in by the Danvers family who help teach her to control her extraordinary powers. That is, before she comes to totally embrace her super-human abilities and use them for good.
