On The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this week, host Jimmy Fallon held a very special Valentine’s Day Edition of “Freestylin’ with The Roots.”
Asking some guiding questions from members of his audience, Fallon showcased his biggest Tonight Show asset, its house band, The Roots, a musical outfit that I have asserted before might be the greatest band in the world.
Watch the videos here below of “Freestylin’ with The Roots: Valentine’s Day Edition.”
The Roots made up an “I love you Jimmy” song in the style of Barry White. Drummer Questlove killed it with the Barry White bass-baritone voice and I really hope he gets first dibs in that biopic. That song ended with “I wanna take you back to Bangladesh with me!”
The second song was done in Sinatra style about how much one audience member loves the clarinet (his daughter plays), called “Thyself.”
The third song was about being safe in the storm and stocking up on beer, in a sexy R&B style. The lucky audience member even got to slow dance with Fallon. I’m jealous!
Tariq Trotter aka Black Thought has such a rich lovely voice, he needed a special mention. These three songs showed off his melodious range to perfection.
