Each and every week, I, “Agent Mulder!” Henchman 21 and “Agent Scully!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of March 25, 2015. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Well, looks like it’s going to be a trade and graphic novel heavy list this week, as we looks at a stack of new books from Image, Marvel, Top Shelf, and maybe some others. Okay, and maybe I’ll throw in a few single issues just for fun. You never know what will happen on The GoD List!

Henchman 21

Wayward Volume 1: String Theory (Image Comics – $9.99) Ancient Japanese monsters, prepare to meet your match. Wayward Volume 1: String Theory collects the first 5 issues of Jim Zub and Steve Cummings supernatural adventure series, and if you like books like Batgirl or Buffy the Vampire Slayer or just a good action story, you should pick this up. Rori Lane is a half Japanese, half American teenager who moves to Tokyo only to discover that she has mystical powers and soon finds herself embroiled in the fight against ancient monsters. These first five issues do an excellent job of setting up some good ongoing mysteries as well as an interesting cast and a unique setting for everyone to play in. Wayward is off to a great start, and if you pick this up (and you should) and like it, you can also pick up issue #6 today as well. It’s more than worth your time and money.

Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection: Round Robin (Marvel Comics – $34.99) Man, this is a blast from the past. Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection: Round Robin has a whole batch of issues, which include the Round Robin storyline from Amazing Spider-Man #353-358. This is old school 90’s Spidey fun, with plenty of guest stars like Moon Knight, The Punisher, Night Thrasher, and Nova. This collection also has the 1992 graphic novel Spider-Man: Fear Itself (as opposed to the 2009 mini-series Fear Itself: Spider-Man. Comics can be confusing). These are the kinds of comics that made me fall in love with them in the first place. Sure, they haven’t aged as well, but sometimes there’s nothing quite like rediscovering some goofy old comics.

Invincible #118 (Image Comics – $.25) No, that price is not a misprint, unless you read you comics digitally because then the price is $.00. Yes, free. Hey, I’m always down for a good jumping-on point, especially when those issues are priced to move like this is.

Nemo: River of Ghosts (Top Shelf Productions – $14.95) Nemo: River of Ghosts is another tale starring Alan Moore’s take on the daughter of Captain Nemo from his League of Extraordinary Gentleman universe. Is anybody still reading these? I feel like no one talks about them, at least to the level that an Alan Moore book used to generate. I read the first couple of these Nemo books, and while they were better than a lot of other comics out there, they certainly didn’t have the same spark as that original LoEG story. What they did still have is the stunning art of Kevin O’Neill, who is still cranking out page after page of amazing art. This marks the end of this series of League stories, so we’ll just have to see what Moore and O’Neill come up with next.

Sex Criminals Volume 1: Big Hard (HC) (Image Comics – $39.99) I think I had the same reaction to Sex Criminals as most readers who dove into the series sight unseen – it was nothing like I thought it would be. This comic book series is AMAZING. GoD’s own Waerloga69 did the full review for this hardcover Volume 1 collection and what was his first reaction? “Once I was able to make some headway on the graphic novel, I found it utterly amazing.” Exactly. I hesitate to even give you a small synopsis of this comic book because I feel like jumping in clean is the best way to go. This one, obviously, is for adult readers, but I’ll just say, it’s not a “sex” comic or porno or anything like that. Written by Matt Fraction with art by Chip Zdarsky, Sex Criminals is so damn good; grab this first Volume for sure.
