After a small recap of Season 4, you get a review of Louie 5.1 “Pot Luck.” There are barely any spoilers.

Last season ended with Louie and Pamela finally being in sort of a relationship place, after that controversial scene in “Pamela Part 1.” Things moved a little more forward in “Pamela Part 2,” with Louie finally saying, “I love you” at the end of “Pamela Part 3.” Pamela’s non-answer was telling. And I thought there was hope for these crazy kids after meeting the ex-wife and exchanging kid exposure (sounds way worse than what it was).

Louie 5.1 “Pot Luck” review: Louie’s stand-up in the beginning of the episode is hysterical as usual. Topic? Aliens and life on other planets. Needless to say, it won’t be good, for many funny reasons.

The episode is classic Louis CK from the first few seasons. After his therapist falls asleep during his session, he goes to a potluck and is the most awkward person in the room as per usual. The other parents are snobby, and there’s a slight seed of doubt as to whether it isn’t justified or not, because he does do the wrong things always. That is the theme of the episode. He attempts to do the right things, but gets it so wrong, and is consistently emasculated to the backdrop of a street musician banjo. You sit there going, “Oh shit! I can’t believe he just did that or said that.” And Louie is right there with you thinking the same thing. He so reminds me of Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm, yet much raunchier (especially in this episode).

A solid episode. I’m a little disappointed this season is only going to be 8 episodes long. That’s not enough Louie. Do you think this is the beginning of the end? After all, five seasons is a solid run. I guess we’ll find out.
