Earlier this week it was announced that The Russo Brothers signed on to direct Avengers: Infinity War. The two are well-versed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier and returning to direct its upcoming sequel Captain America: Civil War. Now, a new report says that they will be reuniting with their Winter Soldier writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely for the sequel as well. Hit the jump for more.
Badass Digest reports that Markus and McFeely will pen the scripts for Marvel’s two-part epic. The two have worked on both Captain America films, and will write Civil War. They also wrote the script for Thor: The Dark World. That is a total of four Marvel films, so they are pretty familiar with the MCU. The two also helped create the ABC’s Marvel miniseries Agent Carter.
This wouldn’t be the first time the writing team and directing team have worked together though. They previously collaborated on The Winter Soldier, and are reuniting for Civil War. The fact that they have worked together twice already means they know what they want from each other. So we probably should expect the same tones seen in Winter Solder and Civil War to appear in both Infinity War films.
Based on the in-house hire, it seems like whatever happens in Civil War will dictate the events in Infinity War. But the report adds that Thor: Ragnarok will have a “universe shaking” role Winter Soldier had in Phase Two.
Captain America: Civil War opens May 6, 2016. Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 will be released on May 4, 2018, and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 will open on May 3, 2019.
