This is the kind of pairing you never thought would happen, yet you’re happy it did. A new report says that Ryan Gosling is in talks to join Guillermo Del Toro‘s Haunted Mansion. This isn’t any ordinary backroom negotiation, Del Toro and Gosling have been actively talking to each other for the past few months.
The Wrap reports that Gosling and Del Toro have been doing a lot of hanging out lately. First, the two were spotted at Disneyland the exact ride that will inspire the adaptation – honestly, that should have been our first clue. Then they spent a few moments over at Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the Pirates of the Caribbean. There is also a photo of them enjoying the thrilling ride Radiator Spring Racers in Carsland – now I’m thinking about Del Toro directing Cars 3 for some reason.
The two were also spotted together recently at SXSW, where Del Toro moderated a panel for Lost River, Gosling’s directorial debut film.
It has been five years since the Del Toro adaptation was announced, and it’s only now that we are hearing some legitimate news on its production. When last we heard, D.V. DeVincentis (High Fidelity) was penning the supernatural family fun ride script.
Up next for Gosling is Terrance Malick’s Weightless; co-starring alongside Russell Crowe and Matt Bomer in Shane Black’s The Nice Guys; and starring in Adam McKay’s The Big Show, which also features the talents of Brad Pitt, Steve Carrell, and Christian Bale.
Del Toro has the upcoming Crimson Peak – if he could design a house like the one seen in that film, when I can’t wait to see what he does with Haunted Mansion. He is also working on Pacific Rim 2.
Hopefully we will hear more about Haunted Mansion during San Diego Comic-Con and the Crimson Peak press tour.
