It’s a bit hard to remember that there is going to be a film based on The Flash, especially since the hit TV show is running around and giving the CW huge rating. But The Flash is coming, and it stars Ezra Miller. We still don’t know what iteration of the character the actor will be playing. With the studio hard at work getting the ball rolling on the other DC films — Green Lantern, Shazam, Wonder Woman, Justice League, and more — it has just been announced that The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been hired to write a draft. Hit the jump for more.
Deadline was the first to report on the news. Lord and Miller are perhaps best known for their work on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The LEGO Movie, and 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. They will also act as producers for The LEGO Movie 2 and all the other LEGO Movie spinoffs, as well as producers for 23 Jump Street. The two also helped create the hit FOX sitcom Last Man On Earth.
The report adds that no other offers have been made, so as far as we know, they will only develop the script, which may or may not be polished by other writers down the line. The two are also writing Ghostbusters for Sony, so that may have affected WB’s decision to make an offer. Still, the two have yet to decide on their next directorial project.
It’s no real surprise that they were offered these writing gigs. The two gave Sony three hit films, while Warner Bros. can credit them for building the foundation for The LEGO Movie franchise. So it is hard to say which movie they will go for if offered the job, but I can see why they might not have been offered it yet considering their workload and that every studio is now vying for them.
