Ack, Ack, Ack!
Just the mention of this Kickstarter for Mars Attacks: Occupation Trading Cards made me drag out the DVD from 1996. You know, just to set the mood. Well, anyway, this Kickstarter Spotlight is a lot different than most of the ones I’ve done in the past. The project was created by The Topps Company, and trust me when I say they know a thing or two about cards in general and these cards in particular.
Originally created in 1962, Mars Attacks! was a trading card collection before ever becoming a comic, movie, or merchandise franchise. It revived in the eighties, and again with the movie release. Well, it seems it’s time to breathe new life into it again. So read on to hear more about how you can help make this happen and to see the Kickstarter campaign video.
Whether you are new to the world of Mars Attacks! or a long time fan, these cards will surely hit the spot. Like most collectible cards, they have commons, specialty, and many super rare versions. You can pledge at whatever level fits your budget and still come away with something unique for yourself or that special someone.
Digital layouts of the cards and the accompanying game will be available for as little as ten bucks. Add another ten and get four packs of the cards. For forty dollars you receive a complete collection of the base cards. I think my favorite reward level, though, has to be the one for eighty. You get an entire case of the cards, twenty-four packs of them. Of course, you can pledge more to get more. There are massive packages that fulfill any need you might have for this collection. If you have five grand burning a hole in your pocket then you can even help design one of the chase cards!!!! That’s an awesome story to tell the grandkids one day.
There are tons of options and a multitude of stretch goals that net you a lot of extras. And this is a sure-fire thing, they’ve already more than doubled their original goal. So what you see is definitely what you get with this campaign, cats and kittens. I haven’t decided which one I’m getting but I plan on snagging at least one case of these bad boys.
Make sure you check out the embedded video below and then be sure to follow up with this fundraiser on the official Kickstarter page. This campaign ends on June 1, 2015 so don’t delay!
