Oakland metal powerhouse High On Fire is set to release its seventh studio album Luminiferous next Tuesday, June 16th, but for a limited time the full album is available for streaming.
Once again, the power trio lead by Sleep guitarist Matt Pike prove why they are the heir apparent to Motorhead. Luminiferous finds the band displaying a laser sharp focus, thanks in part to Pike’s new-found sobriety. The album was once again recorded at God City Studios in Salem, Mass. God City owner and Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou is also on board as producer again.
Luminiferous is a crushingly heavy and breathless joyride that veers between chest-crushing sludge and headbanging thrash, hitting all points between. This is metal as it should be, but don’t take my word for it… head over to NPR’s website to listen to it right now. Be sure to bring some Asprin though; you’re going to need it after all of the unhinged headbanging.
