Last week on Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, the band plus Gigi (Liz Gillies) tried to get Johnny (Denis Leary) clean and sober, so he could be more productive in the songwriting department. This is after he wrote a killer riff during a bender, that he didn’t remember writing. Gigi is worried about his health though. He signed a contract without reading it, and a few of the stipulations were – Gigi is the singer, Johnny is the songwriter, and he’s gotta write 5 songs sober in 30 days. Johnny went to each and every member of the cast to try to wiggle his way out of it, until finally Rehab (John Ales) relented on some Adderral. Johnny had the last laugh though. He wrote the worst song ever, and they all ran to grab liquor and weed – but that’s it. Johnny Rock is a master manipulator.

SDRR 1.3 “Lust For Life” review: I like this. Each week has a loony little premise, and everybody, even the ones not drunk or taking drugs, jump on board. This week, a fake “Johnny Rock died” rumour is spiraling around the internet, and Ira (Josh Pais) thinks he should stay dead for a bit, because “sales are up 400% on iTunes.”

Johnny: “How many did we sell?
Ira: “402”

The plan is… Stay dead for a few days, let The Heathens be the buzz, introduce Gigi and The Assassins, and… it’s a miracle! Johnny Rock is alive!

Nothing can go wrong with that, right?

On a serious note, Gigi asks Johnny if he loves her, and he stammers out a non-answer. I think it’s a little premature for that – relationships can’t be forced, but it seemed like a set-up for her debut performance, where she sings a song for her father. You can see the song affects him.

I think The Assassins are gonna be big! Episode 3 and I’m still liking this cute little show, where cute means cursing, drinking, good music, a little vomit, and crazy people.

Awesome cameo from Joan Jett!

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll airs Thursday nights at 10pm ET on FX.
