‘Freaks Of Nature’ Red Band Trailer: Zombies and Vampires and Aliens… Oh, My!

Sony Pictures has released a red band trailer for a new horror comedy from director Robbie Pickering (Natural Selection) titled Freaks of Nature. The movie just sort of appeared out of nowhere and, believe it or not, you’ll be able to watch it very soon when it gets released in limited theaters and video on demand services on October 30th.
The movie is set in a town in which vampires, humans, and zombies actually live together…and do so peacefully. That is, until aliens show up one day and ruin everything for everyone. It stars Nicholas Braun, Mackenzie Davis, Josh Fadem, Denis Leary, Bob Odenkirk, Keegan-Michael Key, Ed Westwick, Vanessa Hudgens, Patton Oswalt, and Ian Roberts.
You can read more about Freaks of Nature and watch the trailer below. Again, this is a red band trailer, so a NSFW warning is in effect.

The final season 1 episode of Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll aired last night, and I’ll tell you… this has been an enjoyable little season. The premise is original, the comedy is dark, the drama is light, and the rock does roll. The exploits of Johnny Rock (Denis Leary) and The Heathens, long-lost daughter plus kickass singer Gigi (Liz Gillies), guitarist/nemesis Flash (John Corbett), snarky girlfriend/backup singer Ava (Elaine Hendricks), severely in need of rehab bassist Rehab (John Ales), and silly foodie drummer Bam Bam (Robert Kelly), provided 10 episodes of roguish delight.

Again… spoilers and NSFW. I love it.
Last week on Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, the episode lived up to its “pimp” name, as Johnny (Denis Leary) started talking to a young (and douch-y) guy to get him to date Gigi (Liz Gillies). He’d do anything to get her away from Flash (John Corbett). It almost worked too, and led to the best songwriting session of the season. Click here to see the list of some of the very creative song titles. Rehab and Bam Bam (John Ales and Robert Kelly) are sick of being 2nd (rather 4th and 5th) string in the band, and decide to create their own genre, Beastcore (animal sounds included). They are surprisingly kind of successful at a show, but the end brings about a never-mention-this-ever moment.

So spoilers…and I think the review is a bit NSFW.
Last week on Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, we met Johnny Rock’s (Denis Leary) mommy, and boy can she give “Mommy Dearest” a run for her money. The band goes back to the 70s for his mom’s wedding – cue Gigi and Ava (Liz Gillies and Elaine Hendricks) in authentic garb, breathlessly singing 70s disco. Mom (guest star Kelly Bishop) never got over getting tossed for the role of Mary Poppins in favor of “Supercalifragilisticjuliefriggingandrews.” She is all about herself, but the episode did highlight how awesome Johnny’s dad is at saxophone, at caring about his kid, and providing insight. Rehab and Bam Bam (John Ales and Robert Kelly) end the show with a wtf? moment: Rehab brings back a 170-year old woman while on Quaaludes (he’s a method musician), and Bam Bam gives a hand job to a guy for delicious ribs.

Last week on Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, we were treated to the best episode of the season thus far, with Gigi’s (Liz Gillies) mom Cat (Callie Thorne) showing up, and tattoos on everyone’s brains. We learned some new words (my fave is tit-motized), and saw Flash (John Corbett) and Gigi’s budding relationship tested. I have to admit. I was kinda hoping that Cat and Flash would get together, and that Gigi would be fine with it, but that’s not how it ended up. The tattooing was the committment symbol, and a lesson on fathers and daughters. Johnny (Denis Leary) got tattoos to prove his committment to both Ava (Elaine Hendrix) and Gigi. And it’s okay that she isn’t ready, because she’s the daughter.

Last week on Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, Gigi (Liz Gillies) makes the whole band go to therapy. And yes… it is exactly what you might think with Griffin Dunne playing the therapist. He is the anti-Johnny (Denis Leary). He is an incense-burning, shamanistic, meditating, hippie doctor. The band responded with varying levels of hilarity. Gigi tries to work out her daddy issues. Rehab (John Ales) wants some good drugs. Flash (John Corbett) is obsessed with aging. Ava (Elaine Hendricks) rollerskates in booty shorts. Bam Bam (Robert Kelly) writes Drumsong. Johnny is skeptical, but his skepticism feels redeemed when they are dubbed, “The Most F***d Up Band In The History Of Rock-n-Roll.”
