Last year, ABC brought us an epic 4-episode run of a new musical adventure comedy, Galavant. It was funny, the songs were catchy, and the guest stars were a-plenty; Ricky Gervais, John Stamos, Rutger Hauer, and “Weird” Al Yankovic to name a few. Now the show is returning with an even epic-er 5-episode second season.
Watch the hilarious musical preview below.
Joshua Sasse is the titular hero on a mission to reclaim his lost love Madalena (Mallory Jansen) who was forced to marry the evil King Richard (Timothy Omundson). Like any noble hero, Galavant finds a crew of seconds, including the beautiful Isabella (Karen David) and the incredibly loyal Sid (Luke Youngblood). In the surprise twist of the first season, Madalena turned out to be the villain, as apparently a power hungry Queen is a much better role for her than poor loving wife. Richard is a bumbling moron and is replaced by his mean brother Kingsley (Hauer), and is now working together with Galavant.
The musical video also promises more guest stars, and a continuation of the show’s slapstick style comedy, reminiscent of Monty Python. After all, the first episode is called “A New Season AKA Suck It Cancellation Bear.” The show, written and created by Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love & Tangled) returns to ABC on Sunday night January 3rd.
