The Shannara Chronicles will debut on Tuesday, January 5 at 10pm ET/PT with a special 2-hour series premiere immediately following the return of MTV’s Teen Wolf at 9pm ET/PT.
“The Shannara Chronicles” is an epic television event based on the sweeping, best-selling fantasy book series by Terry Brooks. Set thousands of years in the future, the story follows three heroes, Elf-Human hybrid Wil (Austin Butler), Elvin Princess Amberle (Poppy Drayton), and Human Rover Eretria (Ivana Baquero), as they embark on a quest to stop an evil Demon army from destroying the world.
I, personally, was selected to be one of the Chosen, and received a very mysterious, HEAVY, wooden carved box in the mail with my name draped across it. Inside the box in a sack buried in dirt (yes, dirt!) was a massive, ornate tome; secreted inside that was the first four episodes of The Shannara Chronicles. So, we’ll have advanced reviews of the show here at Geeks Of Doom as the episodes air. Our review for Episode 1.1 “Chosen” Part 1 is already live (Part 2 will go up later today to coincide with the premiere). Check out the photos of my special delivery here in the Image Gallery.
The book series from Terry Brooks is a long-beloved one; classic fantasy at its best, so I was highly anticipating the TV show, but also a little apprehensive about the adaptation. I’ve already watched the first two episodes, which air tonight, and it did start off great, but I worried that it might be too teen-oriented. Well, nope! I got over that fear real quick. So far, I’m loving what I see. Let’s hope MTV keeps it going.
