The worst kept secret of the holiday season has finally been confirmed: Guns N’ Roses will be headlining the Saturday nights of the legendary Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and it will apparently be at least a partial reunion of the band’s most iconic lineup.
The headlining announcement was made on the evening of Monday, January 4, 2016, but did not come with the expected confirmation that the classic GnR lineup would be reuniting for the California music festival as had been rumored for months. The announcement was, however, closely followed up by the above image being displayed on the Axl Rose-led GnR Facebook page, which was then also posted to both guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan‘s respective social media sites.
So it looks like at least sixty percent of the original lineup will be participating. The rumor mill has it that neither rhythm guitarist Izzy Stadlin nor drummer Steven Adler (nor his replacement, Matt Sorum) will be participating. It is believed that those slots will be filled by current GnR members Richard Fortus (guitar) and Frank Ferrer (drums).
While technically this is still speculation, the fact that Slash and Duff shared the image bodes well for the fans who were hoping for at least that much of a reunion. (Basically, it’s happening, especially since Slash revealed last August that he and Axl had made up and had mended fences after not speaking since the guitarist left the band in 1993). We will keep you updated as more details become available.
Coachella takes place at The Empire Polo Fields just outside of Indio, CA on two consecutive weekends every April. GnR’s headline slots will occur on April 16 and 23, 2016.
Tickets for Coachella go on sale Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 11am at Coachella.com.
