Last week on Arrow, Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) came back, but he was changed, being controlled by a new player called the Calculator (guest star Tom Amandes). The gang is able to save Roy, and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) is able to go head to head with a familiar foe. Thea (Willa Holland) is dying, her fatal wound caused by Ra’s al Ghul, has mysteriously opened. Nyssa (Katrina Law) finds the lotus, a magical elixir that can restore Thea. Who did she get it from? Another familiar face – Tatsu (Rila Fukushima). Nyssa wants Oliver (Stephen Amell) to kill Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman). In return she will give the cure o him for Thea.

Arrow 4.13 “Sins Of The Father” review: Felicity’s dad tries to reconcile with her, and comes right and calls her Overwatch. Cover blown. I was as shocked as she is that they did not drag that out longer. He gives her a thumb drive (as proof of his willingness to change) of his less than savory activities. She really wants to believe in him. Oliver is supportive of that. When she reveals all to her mom, Donna Smoak (Charlotte Ross) instantly changes from silly Mama Smoak to all business with warnings about his character. And she was right. The warnings got through to her. She set them up (the trap), and he knocked them down, setting up the running theme of “don’t trust fathers.”
Oliver does not want to kill Merlyn, although he is desperate to save Thea. He tries to get all parties and friends of parties to compromise. Nyssa does agree to the “not killing Merlyn” thing, if he relinquishes the ring of Ra’s al Ghul.
When Merlyn hears this, he says to Oliver, “I’ve been holding off telling you this. You’re very handsome. Not especially bright.” Cute.
It’s really funny the way Nyssa keeps calling Oliver her husband. Until it’s not funny when Oliver steps up and claims that as well, in order to fight Merlyn for the ring of Ra’s al Ghul in her place. Doubly not funny when they both call each other “hubby and wifey” in front of Felicity.
There are bunches of assassin fight scenes as there is pretty much a war on Star City streets with people beig skewered left and right. The Arrow team tries to broker a truce or at least capture them both so they can figure things out, but when dealing with assassins, there’s just no time to talk.
Oliver did something very against his “changed” nature.
Nyssa did the coolest thing there at the end.
Malcolm – not so much.
Good episode. I like how they wrapped up one of the little storylines.
Arrow airs Wednesday nights at 8pm ET on The CW.
