It’s only so often that I become invested in every aspect of a comic book: from the story, to the illustrations, to each individual character; but with The Creators, Volume 1: Imagination is Power, Michael Bracco has crafted such an intricate and passionate tale that, from the get-go, I had no trouble becoming wholeheartedly engrossed.

The Creators: Imagination is Power, tells the tale of Maya, a girl who can literally create living, emotionally charged beings (usually appearing as monstrous, yet alluring figures) from her drawings. After a devastating event occurs that forces Maya to create for protection, she enters the larger world of “Creators” “” a world in which her kind are feared and at times, used for their abilities.

Bracco’s story itself is at first very intimate, allowing the reader to be a part of Maya’s world. With drawings that perfectly capture a spectrum of emotions, we are allowed the opportunity to discover Maya’s soul. As Imagination is Power progresses, the pacing shifts with it, allowing for a smooth transition into a world a bit larger in scope. New, deeply intricate characters are introduced, with their own narratives waiting to unfold. And by the end of the first volume, Maya’s universe becomes much grander in scale, ensuring journeys yet to be taken and tales yet to be told.

While the first volume of The Creators may have concluded, there are a few things you can do to stay preoccupied in the meantime. Your first step is to read the story for free at Bracco’s website. I can’t stress enough how captivating The Creators is, so go check it out! Each page includes behind-the-scenes information about its development. What you’ll want to do next is return to his site in April for the beginning of The Creators, Volume 2! Finally, in May, I’ll be interviewing Michael Bracco for the launch of his Kickstarter for the first volume.

So join the adventure and stay tuned, because imagination is on the horizon.
