Skies of Fire

It’s that time again, folks! I love to share these little crowdfunding campaigns with the public, especially those that involve comics! I’ve already covered the first two Kickstarters for this series, you can read them here and here, and I’m exceedingly pleased to bring your attention to this one: Skies of Fire #1-3. Self described as a dieselpunk airship story of loyalty and revenge, this one series I can get behind every time.

You can read more about it and check out its Kickstarter video below.

First off, it’s always amazing at how the creation process has changed over the years. It used to be that if the team didn’t work in close proximity they would end up mailing the unfinished work back and forth until it was done. That slow, demanding process has since been upgraded thanks to the internet, using both email and video conferencing. This is a major factor since the Skies of Fire team live on several different continents. Yeah, I said continents. But they’ve made it work and what a treasure that work has been!

This particular comic series is focused on the airships (and crews) that traverse the dangerous Expanse, an eternal storm that permeates their world. The setting has a definitive British vibe to it, though in a turn of the century kind of way. However, this is a tale as old as time: there are those that follow the rules and laws and then there are those who try to take that which is not theirs. In previous issues, we saw one such raider attack and someone destroy an outpost for his own gain. We also followed along as a brave airship captain volunteered to chase the criminal and bring him to justice. This issue is what I would call the end of the beginning. With plot in place and characters established, the chase is on! What happens next is anyone’s guess. Of course, if you help fund this little campaign, you’ll be able to see what happens first hand!

The art is fantastic, the storytelling is beyond amazing. So what’s the catch? Well, there isn’t one! Other than the fact that any contributors will be able to choose a reward based on their contribution level. There are digital rewards, for those that live in tiny houses or have a love for the binary life. For those that prefer the real deal in their hands, comics, cards, posters, shirts, original art…it’s all there for the right backer. I’m not going to list them off like I normally would; I want you to go check it out first hand.

I would urge you to check out the official Kickstarter page sooner, rather than later, as those limited rewards disappear quickly. If you are hesitant to pledge because you aren’t sure if you will receive your rewards, know that this fundraiser is already fully funded and I have always gotten my goodies from this team. They’ve done this before and know how to fulfill their promises.

The campaign ends the morning of April 21, 2016 and I cannot wait to get my rewards!

  1. Skies of fire looks amazing. Is there going to be a crowdspeaking campaign to share this?

  2. I have no idea, I merely contact, or am contacted by, the creator(s). I shared with them the link and hopefully that helps them. I know that at present they are over 400% funded with six days to go. Lots of extras included and I’ve been emailing back and forth with Vincenzo.
