If you were excited about the new Godzilla movie from original creator Toho, titled Godzilla Resurgence, but live here in the States and thought you were going to have to wait a long time to see it, I have some good news for you.
It’s been revealed that Resurgence will be coming to U.S. theaters next month, and you can find more details and a poster for the monster’s arrival here by continuing below.
An unknown accident occurs in Tokyo Bay’s Aqua Line, which causes an emergency cabinet to assemble. All of the sudden, a giant creature immediately appears, destroying town after town with its landing reaching the capital. This mysterious giant monster is named “Godzilla.”
Toho’s latest is already out in Japan and has been doing big things at the box office, having made over 5 billion yen. That’s about $56.6 million, much more than the $29 million that the 2014 American Godzilla reboot was able to score over there (as part of its $529 million total global haul).
Resurgence won’t be doing anywhere near the ’14 Godzilla’s over $200 million total at the domestic box office, mainly because it’s only getting a limited release at the moment. The movie’s first showings will be on October 11th, and it is set to run until October 18th. For now, anyway. If the movie proves to be popular enough there’s no reason to think it won’t add some more time to that theatrical run.
As you can see in the poster, the movie is also going by the title Shin Godzilla. So if you’re looking for a screening in your area and can’t find anything for Godzilla Resurgence, try the other title.
The newest Godzilla is written and directed by Hideaki Anno (Evangelion) and co-directed by Shinji Higuchi (Attack on Titan). It stars Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, Satomi Ishihara, Rando Yaguchi, and Ren Osugi.
If you missed them, you can watch two trailers for the movie right here and here.
