Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

A movie based on developer Naughty Dog’s hit Uncharted video game series has been in the works for a long time now. Many have tried, and failed, to bring it to life on the big screen. At this point, most of those interested in seeing the movie roll their eyes when news of another attempt at making the movie arrives.

So, with that said, here’s some new news on the Uncharted movie! It’s being reported that yet another director has been hired in Shawn Levy to try to pull off the adaptation. Levy is best known as the director behind the Night at the Museum movies, and he is an executive producer of the Netflix hit Stranger Things and directed a couple of episodes. He’s also directed titles like Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther (2006), Date Night, Real Steel, and The Internship.

Last we heard about the Uncharted movie, it was being pushed back a full year from June of 2016 to June 30, 2017. The project has since been removed from Sony’s release schedule, and it will be rescheduled if and when they feel more confident it’s ready to go.

Directors previously attached to the project include Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters), David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle), and Neil Burger (The Illusionist, Limitless).

Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion has made it known he’d like to star in the movie—at least he did six years ago—and he is far and away the top choice of actual fans of the games because he basically is Nathan Drake, but nothing has come of it. Mark Wahlberg was attached to star for a while, but departed. It was also reported that Chris Pratt was offered the role but turned it down.

One thing the Uncharted movie does have going for it is a script already in place. It was penned by The Grey and Smokin’ Aces director Joe Carnahan, who was also a potential director candidate but ended up taking on Bad Boys 3, now titled Bad Boys for Life.
