It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, folks! And what way to show some holiday spirit than with a one-shot comic like Klaus and the Witch of Winter! Who doesn’t like the idea of a beer-drinking bad-ass Santa with a take no crap attitude? Certainly not me, I’ll tell you that for nothing.

Our story starts off with Santa doing a little B&E as he is wont to do. Freshly freed from a truly inhospitable imprisonment, he is back to continue his duty as gift giver. Unfortunately, it seems a new evil in the form of the Witch of Winter has risen and taken the children from the house he has entered. Gathering his wits and strength, Klaus sets off to rescue the kids and return them home.

But it’s more than a simple kidnapping, he quickly determines. Marshaling its forces, his opponent sets many enemies before our hero. Friends, old and new, find themselves helpless pawns in the service of the Witch of Winter. Can he defeat them in his weakened state? Or will he fall prey to the nefarious plans put in place against him? Well, if I told you, then it would sort of ruin the comic, now wouldn’t it?

Written by fan favorite Grant Morrison, the story moves quickly and never seems to have a dull moment. Dan Mora‘s renowned artistry is in full swing here as he presents amazing panel after panel. These two work so well together that the comic just seems to flows effortlessly, enthralling the reader and creating a sense of wonder that is seldom achieved. As a fan of this series, it was a pleasure to see both of them back for this book.

Christmastime or not, this comic is a necessary purchase for any fan of the Klaus series. Self-contained, it embodies everything that I enjoy about the original series: action, humor, and fantasy. You can just about guarantee that any fan of fairy tales or fantasy comics will love this. It’s a perfect stocking stuffer for kids of all ages! Don’t let it pass you by, though. It won’t last long on shelves this time of year!
