Sooner or later we will be getting a Batman movie directed by Ben Affleck. But recent news of the actor not being able to commit to it because of the timing or inability to get the script “right” seems to push the timetable further back. The film doesn’t even have an official release date yet, even with Warner Bros. pushing a few other films back. But their efforts don’t seem to be working.
However, Affleck spoke about the current status of The Batman, and assures us that he will direct the film, just give him a “second.” Check out what he had to say below.
Affleck reaffirmed that he will be directing the movie while on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night. Here’s what he had to say to the late night host:
“I’m gonna direct the next Batman, we’re workin’ on it. It’s one of those things that’s really frustrating because like with Live by Night, it took me a year and a half to write it and get it ready and I worked really hard, it’s just nobody gave a shit. No one was like “˜Where’s Live by Night?!’ But with Batman, I keep getting the like, “˜Where’s the fucking Batman?!’ and I’m like “˜Bro I’m workin,’ give me a second!”
His comments are a bit of a reflection of films today. You’d be hard-pressed to find an average person asking more about what is going on with Live By Night. The Batman obviously has a bigger fanbase, so, of course there are going to be more people invested in that project than any others that aren’t related to the DCEU.
As of right now, the movie doesn’t even have an official release date. But we do know that in addition to directing, Affleck will also co-write the script with Geoff Johns. Joe Manganiello will play the film’s villain, Deathstroke.
Honestly, we really shouldn’t expect any less from Affleck. This is the man who brought us films like The Town and Argo. If anyone deserves some time to perfect the script, it’s him. So it should be interesting to see how this film progresses, and if there will be any major changes in the coming months. One thing is for sure, we’ll likely hear more about the film as we get closer to both Wonder Woman and Justice League. For now, just give him a second.
Just in case you want to hear his directing comments, jump to the 21 second mark on the video.
