With the new reboot of Power Rangers due out Friday, the gang at Screen Junkies decided to give the 1995 movie, based on the popular US series, based on the Japanese show… the Honest Trailer treatment. My sister Emily was a huge Power Rangers fan and we had this movie on VHS, and I swear I had to watch this crap-fest over and over. At least HT narrator Jon Bailey agrees; “This is terrible!” he exclaims during his intro.

He also pokes fun at the remake which looks totally awful, but not in the ridiculously campy way it’s supposed to be. It’s like they mashed Chronicle with Spider-Man… I am not too excited. So watch as they extend the 30-minute episodic formula into 90 minutes of soul sucking sucktitude where Rita summons an ancient evil, the Rangers easily defeat some gooey henchmen, everyone gets large, and the morph into Voltron… I mean Megazord… definitely not Voltron. If you want to see CG that makes everything in the Star Wars prequels look AMAZING, I give you the 1995 CG ending to this movie. Dear. God.
Relive your childhood, when high schools had skydiving teams and all… well three of your favorite stars from the TV show appear, including Tommy, the one who started as the evil Green Ranger then became the leader when he got a white suit… subtle huh? And ah… Kimberly, every 90s kid’s first crush who literally needs to be saved every 5-minutes. And finally there’s Billy, who we later found out was bullied so bad on set he nearly committed suicide. Yikes man. Soon the Rangers go to an exotic planet (cough, Australia) to get new suits, new zords, and new gadgets… can you smell a trip to Kaybee Toys! Watch as they battle Ivan Ooze, who is actually Belloq from Raiders of the Lost Ark! I know, I didn’t that either. IMDb confirmed.
Starring: M-M-Ay Actually Kick Your Ass, Pinky and the Brain, Belloq From Raiders of the Lost Ark… Seriously Needed a Paycheck, Pointless Back Handsprings, and lots and lots of Whooshes… new title: Teenage Morphin’ Ninja Jaegers.
Screen Junkies have just under 6-million YouTube subscribers, and release new Honest Trailers every Tuesday. Power Rangers hits theaters this Friday, March 24th.
