Warner Bros. has just unveiled the newest trailer for Denis Villeneuve‘s Blade Runner 2049, and it asks more questions than it answers. The timing of all of this seems a bit odd considering that WB has a panel at this weekend’s SDCC, but who am I to complain about a brand new trailer for one of the most anticipated films of the year. Plus that just leaves more time for some other WB films that we are interested in.
But that is beside the point. Here we see a few more details about Officer K’s (Ryan Gosling) case and why he must go out of his way to look into the past to find an aged Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford). More on the trailer below.
13-time Academy Award nominee Roger Deakins reunites with Villeneuve for a third time. Here we see a rich neon colored world that looks exciting and desolate at the same time. Even with the CG effects, the practical set pieces bring a sense of realism to the world that Deakins and Villeneuve are creating.
As for the plot of the film, the trailer only can offer vague clues. Although it looks like Jared Leto’s Neander Wallace has something nefarious planned for the replicants that he is creating. And he will do anything to achieve that goal. We also get to see a little bit more from Robin Wright‘s character, who seems to be a police chief or a high ranking officer of some kind. And Dave Bautista‘s character is the one person who can give Officer K the clues he needs to solve his case.
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
The film also stars Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Lennie James, and Mackenzie Davis.
