Amidst a sea of gorgeous black dresses on Sunday night, the Golden Globes shined with the #MeToo and #STANDUP movement. Normally, this is the “fun” awards show, given the mix of TV and movie stars and the free flowing alcohol, but this year was a more serious show with dark undertones given the recent sexual harassment accusations in Hollywood.
Seth Meyers was the host and kept the humor dry and on topic, much like he does on his late night talk show.
Check it out his opening monologue here below.
“Good evening ladies and remaining gentlemen!” Getting right to it, it was all about sexual harassment tonight, “Did you hear about Willem Dafoe… he was nominated. Don’t do that!” Cut to Willem Dafoe with a priceless face.
“We’re here courtesy of the Hollywood Foreign Press. A string of three words that could not have been better designed to infuriate our President,” he said. “The only name that would make him angrier… The Hillary Mexico Salad Association.” True story.
He spoke of the “elephant not in the room,” – Harvey Weinstein.
He didn’t only talk about harassment. When he started talking about The Post‘s Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Meryl Streep, someone came out with a bunch of awards as a joke, and Meyers told them they have to wait to give out them out. Meyers told Oprah she could never be President and Tom Hanks could never be Vice President, since there are some that think the comedien was the reason Donald Trump decided to run for President. Here’s hoping for a Winfrey/Hanks 2020 ticket!
Meyers thanked the women for getting them there and for having to work even harder than most.
