‘Fallout 76’ Announced By Bethesda With First Trailer

Fallout 76

Earlier this week Bethesda sent out a “Please Stand By” tweet, teasing an imminent Fallout announcement and immediately exciting the masses. Many, myself included, assumed it was probably for Fallout 4 on Nintendo Switch or something along those lines. Many, myself also included, hoped it might be another side game similar to Fallout: New Vegas, which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment instead of Bethesda and was released just two years after Fallout 3 (It’s been around two and a half years now since Fallout 4 was released). Today, Bethesda unveiled what it is: Fallout 76.

What exactly Fallout 76 is, well, that remains to be seen. But it most definitely is not a Nintendo Switch port. To reveal the game a teaser trailer has been released, which you can check out below.

Another theory was that the game might be a Fallout MMO similar to The Elder Scrolls Online. And there are some rumors that Fallout 76 might just be some kind of online game. Whether that’s an MMO or not, or if it’s even true, is something to be answered on another day.

The most surprising thing to me, is that this is from Bethesda Game Studios, not just Bethesda Softworks. Bethesda Game Studios is the development studio, the group that makes the main games including Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. The Elder Scrolls Online, for example, is made by ZeniMax Online Studios and, again, New Vegas was made by Obsidian.

There’s been many whispers about what the development team was working on next. Would it be The Elders Scrolls VI? Would it be the first non-Elder Scrolls or Fallout game since IHRA Professional Drag Racing 2005? But another Fallout title? That was not expected so soon, at least not from Bethesda Game Studios. This doesn’t mean Fallout 76 is the only thing they’re currently working on, either; it’s just a bit of an unexpected twist.

Thankfully we don’t have to wait too long to learn more, as E3 2018 is just a week and a half away.
