Terminator 2 remains one of the most important films of my life. Nine years old in 1991, the TV ads for it drove me into a frenzy and my dad’s bad judgment or not allowed me to watch the original before taking me to see T2 in theaters on opening weekend. It was the first movie I ever saw multiple times in theaters, and 27 years later it still holds up as one of the greatest films of all time. It is a masterpiece of action set pieces, drama, music and violence. Titanic and Avatar be damned, THIS is James Cameron‘s magnum opus. Now there is new 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray bundle available, giving home viewers the chance to enjoy one of the most epic films in the most epic way.

If you have not seen T2, then what the heck are you doing reading this or on a geek website to begin with?! Reprising his role from the 1984 original is Arnold Schwarzenegger except this time instead of trying to terminate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), he wants to save her and her son John (Edward Furlong), the future rebel leader against the machines. The machines sent an even deadlier Terminator, the T-1000 (Robert Patrick), to kill John, and the war to save the future is on. The 4K Ultra HD transfer is amazing with resolution, range, and sound that turn your living room into a full theater.

Bonus Features

Aside from the unparalleled quality, the 4K Ultra HD Edition comes with a Blu-ray disc and digital copy, and contains a truly awesome array of bonus features that any fan of the film or series will want to dive into. These include:

T2: Reprogramming the Terminator: An epic 55-minute documentary written and directed by Matthew Field, this covers everything from pre to post production on what was at the time the most expensive movie ever made. Schwarzenegger, Cameron, and almost everyone from the cast (minus Linda Hamilton) and Oscar-winning crew is there talking about the challenges of making the classic. They discuss the importance that EP Marion Kassar was in securing the finances and how Cameron and friend Will Wisher had to get a script ready super fast. Cameron discusses the narrative focus on the strength of human will versus the dehumanization that technology fosters. Watching this in 2018 when human life is so dominated by social media and information technology, you can really view T2 as a omen of things to come. This was riveting, funny, and as a fan of this movie for nearly 30 years, it was very nostalgic. This is worth the price of the set alone!

The Making of T2 (1993): Also included in the set is the original 1993 behind-the-scenes featurette again with most of the cast and crew including this time, Linda Hamilton and Stan Winston, the Oscar-winning special effects master who unfortunately passed on in 2008.

Deleted Scenes with Audio Commentary: There are two famous deleted scenes included and both are available with audio commentary. The first is Robert Patrick’s T-1000 using his cat-like senses to hunt for clues in John’s bedroom, which include some great shots of Patrick through mirrors. The other is the original rejected ending showing Sarah Connor in her 60s narrating the finale. Linda Hamilton’s make-up was deemed a little too obvious and unnecessary by test audiences and Cameron’s dropped the idea.

Trailers: They include all the original trailers which really notched up the nostalgia as I vividly remember being a crazy excited 8-year old seeing the first teasers.

There are 3 different editions of the film included on the Blu-ray disc: the theatrical, special edition, and extended special edition. They also contain several commentary tracks, including one featuring 23 members of the cast and crew, which is a blast to watch, and one with Cameron and co-writer William Wisher.

If you love T2, then the special Ultra 4K HD/Blu-ray is a must-own. You get the full theater experience on one of the greatest sci fi action movies ever made. And for the collector in your life, in one of the coolest gift sets I’ve ever seen, there is a 4K Ultra HD Endoarm Collector’s Edition Box Set where you also get a replica T-800 arm like in the Cyberdine vault!
