Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Like A Boss. The comedy stars Rose Byrne and Tiffany Haddish as two best friends who launch a cosmetics business, only to find themselves deep in debt.
Fortunately, they are saved when a mega business mogul (Salma Hayek) buys out their business, but uses her vicious business practices to pit the two friends against each other and steal their ideas. Check out the first trailer below.
A Byrne and Haddish pairing is something I never knew I needed, until now. Both are clearly funny, and I’ve always enjoyed Byrne in comedic roles. Billy Porter, Jennifer Coolidge, Ari Graynor, Natasha Rothwell, Jessica St. Clair, and Karan Soni also star in the film.
It is interesting to see that this is a female-led comedy, but one that is directed by Miguel Arteta, who uses a screenplay written by Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly, based on a story written by Pitman, Cole-Kelly, and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel. As you can see, the lone female in all of this only got a story by credit.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Best friends Mia and Mel (Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne) are living their best lives running their own cosmetics company they’ve built from the ground up. Unfortunately, they’re in over their heads financially, and the prospect of a big buyout offer from a notorious titan of the cosmetics industry Claire Luna (Salma Hayek) proves too tempting to pass up, putting Mel and Mia’s lifelong friendship in jeopardy. The beauty business is about to get ugly. LIKE A BOSS also stars Billy Porter, Jennifer Coolidge, Ari Graynor, Natasha Rothwell, Jessica St. Clair and Karan Soni.
Still, based on the trailer, it looks like the film will feature a diverse cast in which women can just be women, and show that they can be just as funny in their own comedies. Of course, this is only the first trailer. Let’s just hope subsequent trailers don’t waste the all of the best goofs and gags.
Like A Boss opens in theaters on January 10, 2020.
