Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run. In it, we see the titular character go on his first ever CGI feature film adventure to find his beloved pet snail, Gary. And apparently Keanu Reeves is a sage who also happens to be a sage. Oh, the irony. Check out the trailer below.
Written and directed by Tim Hill, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run reminds us about the pure simplicity of childhood. I never really got into the SpongeBob craze, but it’s hard not to see how innocent the phenomenon is. It doesn’t have any sort of agenda or try hard to be overly pushy with its messages. It is something that is here to bring us laughter and remind us about the importance of friendship.
Honestly, the one thing that got me interested in this is the fact that they were able to get Keanu Reeves to play a sage who also happens to be a sage. It’s been quite a year for the actor, who has had some great roles having appeared in John Wick: Chapter 3, Toy Story 4, and Always Be My Maybe. He also began filming the long-awaited sequel Bill & Ted Face the Music, was confirmed to be returning for The Matrix 4, and was announced as a character in Cyberpunk 2077 from The Witcher developer CD Projekt RED.
Here is the synopsis for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run:
This Memorial Day weekend, SpongeBob SquarePants, his best friend Patrick Star and the rest of the gang from Bikini Bottom hit the big screen in the first-ever all CGI SpongeBob motion picture event. After SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this perilous and hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.
Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Clancy Brown, Mr. Lawrence, Jill Talley, Mary Jo Catlett, Lori Alan, and Carolyn Lawrence all return to voice SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Eugene H. Krabs, Sheldon J. Plankton, Karen Plankton, Mrs. Puff, Pearl Krabs, and Sandy Cheeks, respectively.
Paramount Pictures has scheduled The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run to hit theaters in May of 2020.
