Google Home is a little device that plugs into the wall and responds to your voice. It can play recorded music or the radio through services like Google Play Music and TuneIn, and it can respond to questions based on the knowledge Google has amassed throughout the 21st century. If you’ve got the correct hardware at home, like a Nest Thermostat, Samsung’s Smartthings, or Philips hue, Google Home can allow you to control some of your home’s functions with your voice. We’ve had some time to get to know the Google Home and there are a LOT of things to like about it. Its voice recognition is robust and its audio is impressive for being a little tiny speaker. At the same time, when one looks at Google Home through the lens of a smarthome, AI, product, one quickly realizes that the device is not quite where the demonstrations were during the 2016 Google IO developers conference, nor is it a device that delivers on the promise of its advertisements.

Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell
Season 3
Created by Casper Kelly and Dave Willis
Starring Matt Servitto, Henry Zebrowski, Craig Rowin, Dana Snyder, Dan Triandiflou, Jon Glaser
Adult Swim
Sunday at 11:30pm ET Just in time for Halloween, everyone’s favorite psychopathic (yet mundane) demons are back. Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell aired its premiere episode of the third season earlier this month October, but we got a first look at a couple of the latest episodes and thought we’d share our thoughts. Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell is a mouthful to say out loud, but then that’s part of its charm. The Adult Swim property is a sort of Office Space meets Hell, displaying the banality of evil in literal terms, much like Comedy Central’s two-season series Ugly Americans. The irony here is that Adult Swim’s show is live action while Comedy Central’s show was animated.

Recently, we started a new podcast here at Geeks Of Doom called Violent Delights. It follows HBO’s reboot of Westworld, which began airing and streaming on October 2nd, and takes a deep look into the themes and storytelling that take place on the show. We couldn’t possibly hope to understand what Westworld 2016 could become without taking a look back at the original Westworld (1973). Here’s how this 43-year-old iconic film stands up to the scrutiny of fall 2016. Anyone who’s ever delved into a DC or Marvel comic has noticed that, for the most part, while the world those stories take place in may be nearly identical to our own, it’s just slightly…better. The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers both took place in New York in 2012, but both stories employ superior technology and characters with the goodwill to use them well — to take their power, however gained, and employ it in opposition of the selfish, the greedy, and the grim for the embetterment of all those who are too weak to stand up and face those threats themselves. We call these people heroes.

So by now you’ve hopefully seen the season finale of Game of Thrones Season 6, and if you have, be sure to check out Empress Eve’s detailed review. One thing that really stuck out in this final season was that women took over Westeros and Essos, in most cases, freeing people from the dark reality of male, jerk leadership — but that’s a story for a different post. Still, in order for that to happen, we’ve got to take stock of who had to be removed in order for the ladies to gain power. Men had to die. And in a world, where only male heirs seem to matter, that means whole families have been wiped off the board. Let’s take stock, shall we?
