Terminator Salvation

Video game fanatics. Web game fanatics. It’s time to get your Terminator game on!

By now, we’re all aware that the McG directed and Christian Bale starring Terminator Salvation is moving full steam ahead toward its May 21, 2009 release. To help build even more excitement for the movie by utilizing the massively-popular and still-growing “penny for your thoughts” website: Twitter. Terminator also has a new multi-console video game coming out as well. We all know the track record for movie-based video games, but it doesn’t look too bad, so hopefully it will become a rare gem.

Here’s how the game works:

In the Terminator Salvation Twitter game, members of the human resistance communicate with each other through Twitter and turn to the community for help in decoding intercepted Skynet transmissions. Players earn points through timely assistance in decoding these messages and, with these points, rise in rank within the Resistance Army. Players must constantly be on guard against the machines, which periodically and randomly choose a number of players and penalize them a percentage of their points. A companion blog augments the information within Twitter and hosts a leader board for the game.

Along with the first attempted Twitter game, Terminator Salvation also has a game coming out on multiple platforms, as most movies tend to do come release time.

Click over for more, as well as the video game’s trailer.

space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

Remember back here when we announced the online Search For Bourne game that ties into the upcoming movie The Bourne Ultimatum?

Well, today’s the day online users can start playing the game using Google tools to join the search for Jason Bourne (the role popularized by Matt Damon), the trained assassin who’s on the run trying to find out about his true past.

Search For Bourne

In the online game from Universal Pictures and Google, which is inspired by the Bourne film trilogy, players will assume the persona of a former CIA operative as they track rogue agent Jason Bourne across three continents. The game, which launches today simultaneously in seven countries, allows participants to answer clues that will bring them one step closer to uncovering Bourne’s identity, in the weeks leading to the opening of The Bourne Ultimatum on August 3, 2007.

Using Google tools including Search, Maps, Images, Translate, and YouTube, players will track Bourne online, in the hopes that what he knows will prove helpful in their own quests. With new clues and active game play provided to site visitors each weekday — 15 in total — the game concludes on the film’s opening day.

Participation is free, and contestants can sign up to play at www.google.com/bourne. Throughout the game, players will gain access to exclusive clips from The Bourne Ultimatum and will have the chance to win world-class prizes.

See details below from the official press release regarding the game’s related sweepstakes.

Bytes: Stargate goes massive, Dell goes green

The Geeks of Doom   |  @   |
  • Get ready for a brand new level of gaming lag! Microsoft has announced that Halo 2 and Windows Live Gaming will be coming to their flagship operating system, Vista, on May 8th. [Link]
  • There’s a Stargate MMO coming our way. Based on the worlds visited during the long-running movie-cum-tv spin-off Stargate SG-1, and the more recent Sci-Fi channel darling, Stargate Atlantis (the spin-off of the spin-off!), Stargate Worlds MMO is set to be a huge gaming environment containing all the planets featured throughout the shows, or as Cheyenne Mountain’s Joe Ybarrra says “as many as we have time to build.” There are also two direct-to-video movies in production which Ybarra suggests will share content (both up and down stream) with the MMO. [Link]
  • EA and Spielberg. Two great gaming tastes that taste great together. [Link]
  • Dell wants you to plant a tree, and it’s the first time we agree with anything Dell has ever suggested! Plant a Tree is now an add-on option with every Dell computer purchase, with the intent of reducing the ecological footprint created by every PC. And just in case you’re not in the market for a new computer, they’ve added a stand-alone donation section. [Link]
  • From mile-long lines to midnight shootings to the most unwanted console on the market? PS3, what up? [Link]
  • Can’t get enough handheld gaming? Love show tunes? Well then you’re in luck! From now until April 22 you can quell your jones for both with The Game Boy, a Broadway musical from the Vital Childrens Theatre about a boy who “gets too wrapped up in his new exciting computer game adventures.” [Link]
