Game of Thrones Iron Throne

It’s undeniable that Game of Thrones is one of HBO’s greatest successes, both critically and ratings wise. But all great things must come to an end eventually, so of course it’s getting to the point where fans will start to worry when it will be decided to end the show.

Worry no more. At least not for a little bit anyway. It has been announced that HBO has given the greenlight for not only season five of the hit series based on George R.R. Martin‘s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series, but also a season six!

Game of Thrones Title Image

But might we still see a movie or two released based on Martin’s rich, complex world? The possibility is being “actively discussed,” according to Martin himself. Continue reading to see what he had to say.

George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones 4-Book Boxed Set

If you’re a fan of George R.R. Martin‘s A Song Of Ice and Fire book series — the novels that are the basis for the HBO drama Game Of Thrones, then you know not to get attached to any of the characters – and I mean any of them. No one is safe. People die. People that you’ve come to love die. It sucks. But damn, these books are just so good.

Someone decided to go through all five books of the series and mark all the deaths that occur with colorful sticky notes. I’m sure it was a hefty task. Check out the photo of the marked books here below.

A Tale of Benjen Stark

We haven’t seen or heard from Benjen Stark, a ranger of the Night’s Watch, brother to Eddard Stark, and uncle to the Stark children, since early on in season one of HBO’s Game of Thrones before he disappeared. Perhaps more of his story has been told on the pages of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series, but for we fans of the show, he remains a mystery.

One fan of the story decided to take things into their own hands and make a fan film dedicated to Benjen, which is titled A Tale of Benjen Stark. The seven-minute short sees Benjen finding the gruesome remains of a wildling camp similar to the one seen in the opening minutes of the show’s pilot episode, only with two survivors hiding nearby.

You can watch the short Game of Thrones fan film below.

Breaking Bad Walter White

If you’ve read author George R.R. Martin‘s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series or have seen the HBO series based on the books, Game of Thrones, then you’re very much aware that there are some horrendously evil characters residing in that world.

So when Martin himself says that the main character of the hit AMC series Breaking Bad, Walter White (played by Bryan Cranston), is worse than all of them? Then you know that, well…this. Even crazier, Martin thinks he now has to top White with someone even more evil. Yikes.

What George R.R. Martin Wishes The Iron Throne On HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ REALLY Looked Like

Game of Thrones Iron Throne

I love the Iron Throne that was built for HBO’s Game of Thrones, the TV adaptation of author George R.R. Martin‘s “A Song of Ice and Fire” books. It’s big (around eight feet tall) and intimidating and scary and awesome. But it’s not the Iron Throne that Martin visualizes in his head when writing about it, and that means it’ll never be the right Iron Throne.

Martin understands this, obviously, as things can’t always be exactly how they’re described in a book when you’re working under a strict budget. But with the Throne, many artists have tried to recreate what Martin has in his head—a massive thing, made of thousands of melted swords—and no one had come anywhere close…not until now, that is.

Artist Marc Simonetti does cover art and concept art, and it was his version of the Iron Throne that Martin discovered to be closer than any other. You can see what it looks like below, and why it would have been awful hard to create it for the HBO show.

Fred Savage in The Princess Bride

Hey there, champ. Mind if we have a seat? We heard this week’s episode of Game of Thrones was especially difficult to watch. And we just wanted to let you know that we understand, and that it’s going to be okay. Everything is going to be okay. But probably not.

This week’s episode, titled “The Rains of Castamere,” is the ninth episode of season three and one that fans of George R.R. Martin‘s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series have been waiting for since the show began…with sick, sadistic smiles of pure evil hiding behind poker faces in front of unsuspecting friends and family members who entered the show unaware of what fates these characters had coming to them. As the show has progressed there have been some shocking moments, sure, and even fans of the show who hadn’t previously read the books had learned that it was not wise to grow too fond of a character. But they were not prepared for this.

Be warned that I’m going to do my best not to say anything specific that would spoil the show, but if you’re behind it might be safer to just avoid reading this so you don’t find yourself trying to figure out what happened.
