Hasbro, in collaboration with HBO and USAopoly, announced today a new variant of the board game Risk set in the fantasy world of Game of Thrones. The game will feature two maps — one of Westeros and one of Essos — and allow players to take control of the powerful noble houses, such as the Baratheon and Lannister. Finally, fans of the series from author George R.R. Martin can indeed take Daenarys Targaryen out of Essos and have her conquer everyone and claim the Iron Throne.

Game of Thrones Title Image

Many fans of HBO’s Game of Thrones who aren’t familiar with author George R.R. Martin‘s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series go into each new episode terrified at the thought that one of their favorite characters could be dead without warning before the credits roll. This is something fans of the books obviously do not have to worry about…not until now anyway.

Martin made a surprise appearance at the Writers Guild West Awards recently, where he revealed a shocking bit of information: characters are going to die in Game of Thrones Season 5 who do not die in his books.

Continue reading to see what the author had to say about this and the future of the show.

Weird Al Yankovic Emmy Awards 2014 Game Of Thrones theme song with Andy Samberg

Weird Al Yankovic performed at tonight’s Emmy Awards where he took on several popular television theme songs, one of which was Game Of Thrones. The parody master created lyrics for the popular HBO series, adding in parts about poison wine, paying attention to the introductory maps, and the need for author George R.R. Martin — whose A Song Of Ice and Fire novels are the basis for the TV show — to type faster.

SNL‘s Andy Samberg joined Yankovic on stage dressed as King Joffrey, but he eventually made his way into the audience where Martin was seated, handing him an old-fashioned typewriter as Yankovic and his background singers implored the writer to type faster.

Halfthor Bjornsson as "The Mountain," Ser Gregor Clegane

Ser Gregor Clegane, or “The Mountain That Rides,” is a monster…in more ways than one, as anyone who’s read George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series or watched HBO’s Game of Thrones can tell you. The character has been played by three different actors over the course of the series, the most recent being Hafthor Bjornsson, a physical specimen out of Iceland. But unlike the character he’s playing, Hafthor is not a monster at all (at least not intentionally—let’s face it, at 6 ft 9 in tall and 421 lbs, you’re gonna be f’n terrifying from time to time whether you mean to or not).

Bjornsson went all out for one three-year-old’s birthday party, getting his entire body painted to make him look like The Incredible Hulk. Despite being a fan of the Marvel superhero, the child was quite frightened (because see above), but Hafthor took photos with whoever was willing to get close enough.

You can see a video of the Incredible Hulk transformation and birthday party appearance below, plus a bonus video of Hafthor deadlifting almost 1,000 lbs, which is why he gets to be The Mountain and Hulk.
