Rob Marshall May Direct Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’
Disney is not going to stop with the live-action adaptations of their animated classics. Not as long as films like Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast keep making the box office gold that they are making. With films like Dumbo, Aladdin, Mulan, and The Lion King currently in the works, the studio is continuing to go through their vault of award-winning animated films and pairing them with an almost perfect creative team. Case in point, The Little Mermaid, which will have new songs by Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken.
We reported on the film when it first broke in August of last year, and now there are new reports saying that the live-action film is looking to land Rob Marshall as director. More on the story below.

Disney’s Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ Cast Pose For The Start Of Production Photo
Today marks the start of production for Disney’s latest live-action flick, Aladdin. The film stars Mena Massoud as the title character who falls in love with the Sultan’s daughter, Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott). As with nearly all the live-action adaptations that Disney has released so far, you can expect Aladdin to stay true to the spirit of the animated original while also adding in a few contemporary elements so that it can connect to a new audience.
One of those elements is Will Smith, who will play the iconic Genie, a magical being who grants Aladdin three wishes after he frees him from his lamp imprisonment. Now with production in full swing, Smith has released a brand new photo of himself, Massoud, Scott, and Marwan Kenzari who’s playing Jafar. Check out the image below.

Disney In Depth: Music Review: Beauty and The Beast (2017)
The tale as old as time is timeless, and so is its music. With the recent release of Disney’s smash success Beauty and the Beast, let’s unpack the music box that is the film’s soundtrack. With all of the original tunes from the 1991 film, as well as some new additions, this new version blends classic and contemporary almost seamlessly, with a few exceptions.
Here is my review of the soundtrack for the 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast.

Alan Menken Offers Details On New “Beauty and The Beast’ Songs
Last week, we got our first look the Disney’s live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Based on the beloved animated Disney classic of the same name, director Bill Condon will be adding some new narrative twists in order for the film to feel more contemporary. But as exciting as that sounds, a lot of us are interested in the recordings of the original songs and the addition of several new songs written by Alan Menken and Sir Tim Rice.
Now Menken is talking about three new songs and how they will fit into the film’s narrative. Check out what he had to say below.
