G.I. Joe #15 is basically the perfect G.I. Joe comic. It’s got everything that you want – Joes, Cobras, and fighting. Another great issue by the current creative team. YO JOE!!

Writer Chuck Dixon sure knows how to handle a crowd!!! There are COUNTLESS characters in this issue and they all get a fair amount of “scren time,” he moves the story along at a great pace, and winds up and starts several plot threads. And let me tell you, one of them that he starts is gonna have a REALLY interesting outcome. Frankly, I’m afraid of how it’s going to turn out. Seriously, this issue is GREAT. In a way, it really reminds me of an old episode of the TV show, although clearly updated.

As if the regular title wasn’t enough, Dynamite this month gives us The Lone Ranger: Snake of Iron #1, the start of a miniseries that is a fantastic Lone Ranger adventure that spans the almost the whole country and is full of mystery, action, and good old fashioned good guys vs bad guys. Sort of.

Acclaimed writer Chuck Dixon takes on The Lone Ranger!!! This is an excellent first issue. It really reminds me of a classic episode of the TV series, but with a wider scope to it. For one, The Lone Ranger and Tonto are separated, and we follow each character on their adventures, which are VERY different from each other. While Tonto is stuck in a more “civilized” environment than he’s used to, the Ranger is set off tracking the mythical “Spirit Horse” that has the Kaigwa Indian tribe VERY upset. While on his mission, the Ranger runs across a very cute, comic foil for him and he’s forced to try and keep an eye on her while trying to keep peace with the Indian tribe. Tonto, unknown to him, is about to set off on the same mission, but he’s halfway across the country.

What Snake Eyes #15 has that I love is a whole issue of build up that’s NOT pointless. Quite the opposite, actually. And what it’s building up to… well, let’s just say if you buy one book next month, it better be Snake Eyes #16!!!!!

I hate to say it, but it’s like there’s two different Chuck Dixons in the world. There’s the Chuck Dixon who writes the monthly G.I. Joe title, and then the one who writes Snake Eyes. It’s come to my attention that Snake Eyes is the more action orientated, by far, of the two. I don’t know if Dixon feels that it’s just the nature of the beast or that he’s set out to fill every page with as much action and intrigue as he can in this book. Don’t get me wrong, G.I. Joe is a GREAT comic, but this one is that, plus infinity.

G.I. Joe #13 is one of the best issues of the title that I’ve read in a while. The dust from the Cobra Command crossover has settled, and there’s a new status quo for the G.I. Joe team. One that’s not really all that great, actually. It’s nice to have the Joes being the underdogs for a change.

Writer Chuck Dixon has been running the GI Joe universe for quite some time now, and he and the audience, are quite comfortable with that, as he’s doing a great job. He consistently delivers fresh, easily accessible stories that are both entertaining and exciting. This issue is no exception. You have Cobra with the upper hand, the Joes behind the 8-ball and off on a mission that they really can’t afford. Literally. To make matters worse, the Joes have been exposed to the world at large. So, things are quite tense for America’s freedom fighters, as you can imagine. This issue is solid, action packed, and fun to read. Everything you want in an issue of G.I. Joe!

Cobra Command begins in G.I. Joe #9 and Cobra proves they are NOT something to dismiss easily! Finally, Cobra IS a ruthless, terrorist organization determined to rule the world — and I get the feeling they just might.

Chuck Dixon packs an awful lot of story into this first chapter of Cobra Command. He gives us a nice recap of the whole Cobra Civil War storyline in about three lines of dialogue, so the whole issue isn’t a recapping of what came before.
