We Happy Few
Xbox One | PlayStation 4
DEVELOPER: Compulsion Games
PUBLISHER: Gearbox Publishing
RELEASE DATE: August 10, 2018

Developer Compulsion Games’ We Happy Few takes place in the 1960s on an island off the coast of England called Wellington Wells. It’s set in an alternate history in which World War II played out much differently. Bad things happened here in Wellington Wells. So bad, in fact, that the island has basically been cut off from the rest of the world.

To help people forget this darkest of times in the history of their home, a drug was created called Joy. It makes everything all sunshine and rainbows for everyone, and helps them to function as semi-normal (at least in their minds) human beings again.

We Happy Few

Back at Gamescom 2015 we saw a trailer for a psychedelic nightmare of a game titled We Happy Few, which is set in what’s described as a “drug-fueled, retro-futuristic city in an alternative 1960s England.” In the game you either take your medicine and stay nice and happy with everyone else, or things can go bad on you quickly.

Technically the game is still being made. It’s available to buy via Early Access on Steam, Game Preview on Xbox One, or Games in Development on GOG, but hasn’t been fully completed yet. Still, it’s been played by enough people and made enough of an impression to catch the attention of Hollywood. It’s been announced that a movie based on We Happy Few is now in development.

We Happy Few

A new gameplay demo has been released for We Happy Few, that acid trip of a first-person survival game set in 1960s London we saw a trailer for back at Gamescom 2015.

The new gameplay demo is just as trippy as stuff we’ve seen in the past. It also confirms that the game is coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 PC this summer. Be sure to check out the new gameplay demo below.
