| ‘The Mummy’ Behind The Scenes Featurette Sees Tom Cruise Boarding The Vomit Comet
Now that Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Alex Kurtzman‘s The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, it’s time to answer some of those lingering questions we may have about the film. No, not about the shared Monsters universe that the studio is creating, but on how they shot that gravity-defying scene that sees Cruise and co-star Annabelle Wallis twisting and turning in a plane. As it turns out, this wasn’t CGI or done on a soundstage. This was real and shot in an aircraft, appropriately called The Vomit Comet. Watch the featurette here below.

| ‘The Mummy’ Trailer: Tom Cruise Meets Terrifying Gods and Monsters
The popularity of a shared universe is undeniable. Disney has their Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Warner Bros. has the DC Extended Universe. Both studios use comic book source materials to expand and grow their superhero franchises. This doesn’t leave much for other studios. But in the case for Universal, they have their classic monster movies at their disposal. So, in order to keep up with the competition, they are launching a shared Monsters universe, and it will all kick off with Alex Kurtzman‘s The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond) The film’s first trailer dropped during Sunday night’s episode of The Walking Dead. | First Look At Universal’s ‘The Mummy’ Reboot (Video)
For those who are unaware, Universal Pictures is in the process of rebooting their Classic Monsters franchise with an Avengers-style shared universe. The first movie in this reboot of the monsters is The Mummy. Directed by Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Fringe), the movie stars Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll, and Kingsman: The Secret Service star Sofia Boutella as the new mummy. The first trailer for the movie is coming very soon, and Universal has released a brief first taste of what the movie will look like to build excitement for the trailer’s release. | Universal Monsters: Javier Bardem Cast As Frankenstein Monster
Just like any shared universe, there are huge stars attached to the lead role. Universal’s Monsters Universe is really shaping up to be something that could stand beside competing studios and their shared universes. Tom Cruise will be playing a Navy Seal who must battle a rampaging mummy (Sofia Boutella) in the Iraqi desert in the reboot of The Mummy. Russell Crowe will make a cameo appearance as Dr. Jekyll, and Johnny Depp will be The Invisible Man. The Wolfman, which has Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) penning the script, is currently eyeing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to play the titular character. Now there is word, that another major actor will be joining the classic monsters universe. Reports are that Javier Bardem will play a Frankenstein role in the rebooted universe. | DC Resurrects ‘Justice League Dark’ As Next Animated Feature
Last summer Warner Bros. temporarily banished their DC Comics superhero film project Justice League Dark to the bleakest depths of Development Hell following the departure of Hellboy and Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro. The project would have brought together the DC Universe’s strangest supernatural heroes including Swamp Thing, the Demon, Zatanna, and John Constantine, but was not intended to be part of the studio’s plans for an extended cinematic universe based on other popular DC characters. Without del Toro at the helm, the feature looked as good as finished. But although Justice League Dark might never exist as a live-action film, it looks as if we will soon be seeing it in animated form.
