| ‘Max Payne’ Director John Moore Chosen By Fox, Bruce Willis To Helm ‘Die Hard 5’
After a lengthy search by 20th Century Fox, director John Moore has been hired to helm the currently untitled Die Hard 5. Apparently Fox was already very high on Moore to direct, but star Bruce Willis“”known for being very involved in the productions he’s working on””was a big part of meeting with various directors and helping to choose which one he thought was best for the job. Other candidates included Justin Lin (Fast Five), Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), Mikael Hafstrom (1408), Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury), and Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin).

| ‘Die Hard 5’ & Bruce Willis Find Their Director In Noam Murro |
 |

It’s been no secret since the release of Live Free or Die Hard, the fourth installment in the franchise, that star Bruce Willis was planning on making more at some point in the future. Movement has been speeding up lately on what’s simply being called Die Hard 5 at the moment, and now the flick’s director has been chosen by 20th Century Fox and Willis. Deadline is reporting that Noam Murro will be taking the wheel on the project, which could become his third feature film. Murro has only one completed credit to his name — 2008’s Smart People, which starred Ellen Page, Dennis Quaid, Thomas Hayden Church, and Sarah Jessica Parker — and has another currently in production called Hateship, Friendship, Courtship. These aren’t the credits of someone you would see directing a Die Hard movie, but these movies are also not what stood out to those who hired Murro — it was his work on some popular live-action Halo shorts made for the release of Halo: Reach that caught eyes and won him the job. You can see the videos below if you missed them.

John McClane saves the day again in Die Hard Year One #8. As the blackout rages on in New York City John wraps up the hostage situation in true McClane fashion. The real villains behind the blackout and their real plans are revealed. McClane and his partner Detective Olga Cruces work to find the criminals responsible for the blackout and stop the bank robbery in progress. As a nice taste of what is to come there is a nice juicy peek into McClane’s future on the last page. Howard Chaykin continues to blow me away with one of the best licensed properties out there. The twists and turns that usually are easily seen in a prequel work very well in every issue of this comic. Chaykin is great at taking what is essentially an action movie and splitting it into multiple issues while keeping just enough exposition and action in each one of the issues. I continue to put this book at the top of my stack every week, excited to see what happens next in McClane’s first year on the Force and how he meets all of his friends and foes before the movies happen.

There are a lot of unique art forms to North America: Jazz, Rock and Roll, Comic Books. In many ways, they make up the pop culture mythos of America. To this list I would add action movies. The eighties gave birth to a whole new genre of over-the-top, hyper-masculine action films, and reigning supreme on top of that heap is 1988’s Die Hard. With its reluctant hero, its tongue-in-cheek humour, and unforgettable action sequences, it is one of the most memorable American films of the last fifty years. BOOM! Studios has produced its own addition to the Die Hard legacy with the Die Hard: Year One comic book series, and as an experiment in expanding the John McClane legend, it’s a roaring success.
