Netflix and DreamWorks Animation have announced an expansion of their already established multi-year deal. The deal makes the streaming service the home for a lineup of new original family friendly series everywhere except China, and also includes the streaming rights to DreamWorks Animation’s films as well.

But what’s perhaps most exciting is two of the projects confirmed in this new deal. One is Trollhunters from Pan’s Labyrinth and Crimson Peak director Guillermo del Toro. The other is a re-imagining of Voltron.

Chris Farley

Before ]Mike Myers ever voiced the titular Shrek for four very successful films and a few TV specials, the late Chris Farley was tapped to play the lovable green ogre. In fact, reports say that the comedian had actually recorded up to 95% of the voice work before his passing. With that in mind, one has to wonder what would have the film sounded like had DreamWorks animation just released it.

Now a newly released video is showing how widely different the one Farley voiced would have been had the animated studio just stuck with it as opposed to the one Myers voiced. Check it out below.

Dreamworks Animation

Running an animation studio like DreamWorks Animation is tough, especially when your competition consists of Disney, Pixar (which is Disney-owned), Illumination, and Laika. Since Paramount cut its ties with DreamWorks in favor of distributing their own animation projects, Fox has picked up their film slate.

But the movies are performing below expectations at the box office, and now the studio that brought us successful multiple Oscar and Golden Globe winning and nominated franchises like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How To Train Your Dragon has been forced to cut 500 jobs across all divisions and locations, and will be closing its PDI offices in Redwood City, CA. The studio will also be reducing its releases from three to two a year. Hit the jump for more.

SDCC 2014: Penguins Dreamworks Panel

Thursday’s San Diego Comic-Con kicked off with a presentation by DreamWorks Animation in the convention center’s hallowed Hall H.

Ferguson opened with a joke about how SDCC is the weekend all domestic cats dread as their owners dress up in weird costumes and leave them alone for the weekend. He also mentioned that he’s moderating the panel because he’s “frightened of Jeffrey Katzenberg” and of course due to his appearances in the How to Train Your Dragon films. He then introduced a trailer for the upcoming film Home.

First was the panel for Home with director Tim Johnson, and voice actor Jim Parsons (from The Big Bang Theory). Johnson mentioned that the film is still six months away from finishing and that he first began the project two and a half years ago upon reading the book the film’s based on, The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex
