Trollhunters Tales of Arcadia

Netflix has released a trailer for season two of the animated series Trollhunters, which is presented by Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water director Guillermo del Toro and DreamWorks Animation.

But it’s not your basic TV show second season. Things are getting shaken up in the Trollhunters universe. It’s been announced that the new season will actually be the start of a new trilogy titled Tales of Arcadia. The trilogy will continue with 3 Below, which introduces aliens as two teenagers from another planet end up here on Earth and must try to blend in as they figure out how to repair their ship. Finally, Wizards will close the trilogy and bring the three stories together.

Below you can find the trailer and a clip from Trollhunters Part 2, as well as quotes from del Toro.

Following a screening of the first two episodes of the new season yesterday, del Toro talked about how there’s already been teases of these new stories in the first season of Trollhunters:

“Already, in the early season of “˜Trollhunters,’ we’ve introduced characters you don’t know how important they are in the other two series. We’ve secretly been planning this for years”

He also talked about what inspired this world:

“When I was growing up in a small city in Mexico for some reason I thought everything was going to happen there. When I was in 7th grade, we went into the sewers with flashlights “” I don’t recommend it “” and we actually crossed the city from beneath. That’s where “˜Trollhunters’ comes from. And for whatever reason, at age 15, I saw a UFO. I have a strange life.”

Joining del Toro for this Q&A was Mark Hamill, who joins the cast for season two. He’ll play a villain, the brother of Trollhunter mentor Blinky.

All episode of Trollhunters season two will be released on December 15th. 3 Below will arrive sometime next year. And everything will culminate in Wizards sometime in 2019.

For centuries, a grand clash between good and evil has been waging between the trolls beneath our feet. Join Jim and friends as they battle the evil Trolls of the Darklands in Trollhunters Part 2 by master storyteller Guillermo del Toro. All episodes available on December 15, 2017.

On the surface, Arcadia appears to be a slice of timeless Americana, but it is no ordinary town. It lies at the center of magical and mystical lines that will make it a nexus for many battles among otherworldly creatures including trolls, aliens and wizards. From visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, the world of DreamWorks Trollhunters is set to expand into a trilogy of series called Tales of Arcadia. Trolls were just the beginning.
