20 years ago children were introduced to a wacky and highly-enthusiastic brainiac who wanted to share his love of the scientific world with everyone. Meet Bill Nye, who started his career as a Boeing engineer, but later became a pop culture icon through hosting a ’90s-era educational show. Bill Nye the Science Guy aired around 100 episodes during its run, and the man, who sports that signature bow-tie, continues to make his mark in Disney’s world.

Here are some examples of how Bill Nye is in many ways a Disney guy.

“To all who come to this happy place, welcome,” Walt Disney announced on July 17, 1955, Disneyland’s opening day. Perhaps if The Walt Disney Family Museum, celebrating its fourth year in San Francisco’s Presidio, should have an associated quote, it should be, “to all who come to this happy place, (you’re) welcome.” This place is truly dedicated to Walt’s admirers. The museum that honors the man responsible for Mickey Mouse and countless other creations embodies a “must-see” attraction for any true Disney enthusiast.

Welcome back to Disney In Depth for the “top five” of a special two-part edition that explores the movies that deserve theme park attractions. Just in case you missed the previous edition, you can check it out here.

Before exploring the “most deserving” films, we cannot ignore the movies that would least work as attractions. Among them are great films and some bad ones, too.

We Disney aficionados simply cannot obtain enough neat tidbits of trivia, seeking answers to everyday quandaries that strike us. Fortunately, Disney Editions just released a fine trivia book that puts many questions to rest. Dave Smith, Chief Archivist Emeritus of the Walt Disney Archives, has long been known to help fans with this endeavor in his legendary “Ask Dave” column. Now, Smith, author of this fact-filled title Disney Trivia from the Vault: Secrets Revealed and Questions Answered, has compiled together over 1,000 questions, providing responses and well-explained descriptions as well.

In this edition of Disney In Depth, I’ll impart my thoughts on this book, and also share some of the more unique questions and answers that you can find inside Disney Trivia from the Vault. I’ll give you 23 fun facts. Why 23? If you’re a Disney fan you should know the reason. (1923 is the year the company was founded).

At just over 250 pages, this eight-chapter book, each dedicated to a different aspect of The Walt Disney Company, contains a vast variety of little-known pieces of trivia that you can bring up at social events. Well, I’m not sure how relevant bringing up the “Kids Amateur Dog Show” at Disneyland from the 1960s would be, but would you know about that had you not picked up a copy of this? I don’t think so. The allure of trivia books is that they contain such oddball details, each with fascinating and extensive stories, making this a treasure trove.

Last week, The Disney Blog posted a first look at Disney World’s new Tron-themed monorail train.

In promotion of Disney’s Tron: Legacy, the sequel to their 1982 film which comes to theaters this December, one of the monorail trains at Disney World was given a Tron-themed makeover, painted with a light cycle with walls of trailing colored light. The “Tronorail” travels only to Disney’s EPCOT, which brings guests into the Future World side of the park, and is yellow on one side and blue on the other. The Daily Disney is reporting that while some fans are loving the Tronorail, others are outraged, criticizing Disney for adding advertising to the monorails.

Of Disney World’s current 11-train monorail fleet, only one was given the Tron transformation, and Disney made it a point to state that the train never goes into the Magic Kingdom, where it would be out of place, unlike in the technology-themed EPCOT.
