Talk about some busted buzz building.

For all intents and purposes, the premiere of Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance at this year’s Butt-Numb-A-Thon was supposed to get the geek oriented film in front of those who would almost blindly love it. However, it did anything but that.

But now, in the face of all that, we get a new trailer for the film, which doesn’t look as awful as those reviews would have one think. Watch the trailer here below.

Marvel Entertainment

It has been a bad couple of days if you are a low-selling Marvel comic, as the company put the axe to a couple of series, while two others were brought to their planned conclusion. Word came down Tuesday that Marvel was canceling X-23, the story of the young, female clone of Wolverine, as written by Marjorie Liu. That same day, word came down that Jason Aaron’s PunisherMax would be coming to an end, with the rumor originally being that the series was canceled with issue #22. However, Aaron revealed via Twitter that the series was coming to the ending he had planned for the book, and that it was just coming to an end, not actually canceled.

Then on Wednesday, we found out two more series would be coming to an end, with the cancellation of Rob William’s Ghost Rider, and the ending of Black Panther: The Deadliest Man Alive (formerly BP: The Man Without Fear, and even more formerly Daredevil: The Man Without Fear). Again, many assumed Black Panther had been canceled, however, regular artist Francesco Francavilla said, also via twitter, that the series hadn’t been canceled, it was just coming to an end.

Geeks of Doom vs. New York Comic Con 2011

Despite being a sequel to one of the worst films to come out of the recent golden age of comic book films, Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance has a ton going for it. Be it the creative team of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank) being behind the camera, or Nicolas Cage, Cirian Hinds, and Idris Elba being in front of it, this film has all the makings of an impressive step up.

And at this the 2011 New York Comic-Con this weekend, those in attendance at the film’s panel got to see not only on some great, if not all that new, footage, but also a really great panel featuring the two aforementioned filmmakers.

The first trailer for the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance has been released. You can check it out here below this article.

The film marks the first time star Nicolas Cage has played the iconic Marvel Comics hero since 2007’s Ghost Rider, Mark Steven Johnson’s much-derided and reviled cinematic adaptation of the character that overcame near-universal derision to become a modest box office hit. This time around Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the deranged masterminds of the Crank series as well as Gamer (and the screenwriters of last year’s atrocious Jonah Hex movie, but that film underwent so many rewrites and reshoots prior to its release that it’s doubtful much of their original script even made it into the final product), are assuming directing duties. Television writers Scott M. Gimple and Seth Hoffman (House, Flash Forward) make their feature screenwriting debut based on an original story by David S. Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins) that is rumored to have been taken from an unproduced script Goyer wrote for the first Ghost Rider film.

It’s not rare for a filmmaker to somehow find work even after failing to make a critically adored film. Mark Steven Johnson is that very filmmaker. Best known for helming films like Daredevil and of course, the masterpiece known as Ghost Rider, Johnson is the poster boy for directors making the film world a lot less interesting.

And now, according to Heat Vision, he’s got a brand new project. The outlet reports that Johnson will helm the new thriller, Autobahn, for Inferno Entertainment. The script is penned by Greg Russo, and follows the story of “a washed-up ex-Formula One driver who wakes up trapped inside a BMW on the side of the Autobahn, Germany’s famed high-speed roadway, which has no general speed limit. He answers a phone ringing in the glove box, only to be told that he has 90 minutes to deliver the bomb-rigged car to a target or his wife and daughter will be killed.”
