Blade Runner 2 has been in the works for quite some time now, and though not much has been revealed about the sequel, we might finally know who will be starring in the much-anticipated follow-up to Ridley Scott‘s original 1982 movie.

Deadline is reporting that actor Ryan Gosling is in talks to join the upcoming movie in a lead role. If this news happens to be true, Gosling will be starring alongside Blade Runner alum, Harrison Ford, who is confirmed to be reprising his role as Rick Deckard.

It’s been announced that Harrison Ford will be returning to reprise his role as Rick Deckard in the long-planned sequel to director Ridley Scott‘s classic science fiction tale Blade Runner for Alcon Entertainment.

Scott won’t be directing Blade Runner 2, however, with Denis Villeneuve currently in negotiations to take over behind the camera for the sequel. Villeneuve is known for directing Prisoners, Enemy, the upcoming Sicario, and Incendies, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Scott will still remain involved with the movie as a producer.

Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi noir masterpiece Blade Runner (my second favorite film by the way) will be celebrating its 30th anniversary next month, a few weeks after the theatrical debut of Scott’s long-awaited return to tentpole idea-driven science-fiction Prometheus. Now that Scott is currently at work on a sequel to Blade Runner alongside original screenwriter – and the man who first gave the project life back in the late 1970’s – Hampton Fancher and a three-disc Blu-ray collector’s edition set of the original hitting stores later this year (no release date has been set but you can pre-order your copy here), a reappraisal of one of genre cinema’s landmark achievements is in order.

Several months before Blade Runner‘s June 1982 theatrical release the Los Angeles-based company M.K. Productions assembled a short 16mm behind-the-scenes promotional film to be screened at sci-fi, fantasy, and horror conventions across the country to drum up buzz about the much-anticipated movie. You would be hard pressed not to hear any questions about the new Blade Runner film during the press tour for Ridley Scott‘s forthcoming Prometheus. There was a debate amongst fans if the film should be a sequel, a prequel, or something along the lines of Prometheus, but a new press release from Alcon Entertainment confirms for the first time that the film will be a sequel. It also offers a few new details about the film.

Hampton Francher, the original screenwriter who penned the first Blade Runner, has been hired to develop, not write, an original story, according to Warner Bros. As some of you may know, Blade Runner is based on Philip K. Dick‘s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? So just how original the story is while staying true to Dick’s universe remains to be seen.
