About a month ago, people all across the United States could hear me scream when Dynamite announced an ongoing Flash Gordon series starting in April written by Jeff Parker. And it’s comics like THIS that made my scream for joy that loud. Right off the bat in this issue, he brings you up to speed on the characters, the villains, the immediate situation in the book, and the sense of urgency. From then on, it just gets better.

If you haven’t kept up with Season Nine of the Buffyverse, here is the short version: All magic has disappeared from our world, now that The Seed had been destroyed. With some help from Angel, Willow has used Buffy’s broken scythe to open a way to another world where she might find a new source of magic and reestablish a connection to the powers she sorely misses. Willow: Wonderland is a five-issue limited series that is now available in graphic novel form for those who missed it the first time.

Jumping into a new world with nothing but a weapon in her hand, Willow establishes a destination after a quick incantation. Shortly after she is attacked by the local denizens and has a pretty close call with a humongous monster, she finds herself face to face with another mage from Earth (though he has had a bit of a mishap) named Marrak. Their adventures include meeting the original caterpillar from Lewis Carroll’s classic book, a reunion with Willow’s former mentor Aluwyn, and an introduction to Aluwyn’s Supercoven that she created near a Wellspring of magic.

Fear Itself

So Marvel’s big Summer event Fear Itself is underway and it’s blowing up all over the Marvel Universe. We’ve got early looks at some of the biggest issues this Summer.

It all starts in May when Fear Itself #2 of 7 hits store shelves. Award-winning writer Matt Fraction and artist Stuart Immonen continue the mystery of who the Worthy are. Seven hammers have fallen to Earth each capable of seemingly endless power. The race is on to see who the Worthy will be and without the Asgardians who have left Earth, will the Avengers be able to save the day? Covers for this installment if the series were done by Steve McNiven and variant by Stuart Immonen. Early images from Fear Itself #2 and previews for other Fear Itself releases are waiting for you after the jump.

In July Fear Itself hits the shores of Utopia in Uncanny X-Men #540 & #541. Writer Kieron Gillen and artist Greg Land bring fear to the unsteady balance between humans and mutant-kind.

Take A Look At The Return Of Ed McGuinness To ‘Hulk’

Hulk #30 CoverLove him or hate him artist Ed McGuiness is back on Hulk starting with issue #30. He’ll be teaming with writer Jeff Parker to continue the smashing and grumbling that is the life of the green giant. In this new story arc the Red Hulk and classic Green must put aside their differences to face a new foe that only they can stop together: THE COMPOUND HULK!

“Thanks to his amazing run with Jeph Loeb, Ed’s become THE definitive Hulk artist of our time,” said Senior Editor Mark Paniccia. “HULK #30 is pure McGuinness madness, introducing new characters that are bound to be instant classics, and some Hulk villains that fans have been frothing for. All this and the Impossible Man, too.”

OK, so I’m not sure about the name of this new foe, but what I am sure of is there will be beat downs a’ plenty. So if that’s your thing this may be worth a look.

Check out some advance images from Hulk #30, which hits funny book shops all over on February 16, 2011, by continuing reading on now!
