Disney In Depth Banner

Summer is creeping around the corner. Now represents the perfect period to catch up on old movies or those you may have missed. Disney dog-themed movies exist in abundance. What better way to deal with those impending “dog days of summer” than to revisit some classic canine fare, or perhaps catch them for the very first time.

Here are five of my favorites that make me shout “bow wow,” organized according to theme. And no, none of the Air Buddies or Beverly Hills Chihuahua films reach even close to making the cut.

“I’m gonna cut you, white-meat!”

I remember seeing the Class of 1984 VHS tape at the local mom-and-pop video store in my hometown. As a Vestron Video title, there was something inherently dangerous and infinitely interesting about the cover art. If you were a kid in the ’80s, you probably saw the cover art for Mark L. Lester’s film on shelves, with punk rock kids on the cover proclaiming, “We are the future… and nothing can stop us!”

Synopsis: Andrew Norris (Perry King), an idealistic and naive music teacher, has moved into a new community with his pregnant wife, Diane (Merrie Lynn Ross), only to find his new job is an academic abyss. Appalled by the crime-infested school, Norris soon crosses paths with its teenage kingpin, the shrewd and sadistic Peter Stegman (Timothy Van Patten). With Norris setting his sights on reforming Stegman and the young punk declaring war on his teacher, the duo is on a collision course for a fateful showdown.

Back to the Future

This might not exactly a breaking news story automatically worthy of your attention, but it’s Back to the Future-related and we here at Geeks of Doom don’t need any more excuse than that.

io9 has published an extensive collection of candid production photos from the Back to the Future trilogy culled from various sources and fans of the Robert Zemeckis-directed movies. If you scroll down to the end of the article you’ll notice a trio of stills from the early days of filming on the original, back when Eric Stoltz was the first actor cast as Marty McFly.

You can check out those pics – along with a few I included just for fun – here below.
