Doctor Who logo and TARDIS from the Netflix web site

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Netflix users who are also fans of BBC shows. Word leaked out a little over a week ago that the contract between Netflix and the BBC to carry popular shows like Doctor Who, Luther, Black Adder, Sherlock, and Red Dwarf was up for renewal on February 1, 2015, but the two sides had not yet reached a deal! If the two sides did not come to terms, then Netflix would no longer carry BBC content after the end of this month. More than one article appeared on web sites warning everyone to “get that last bit of binge watching in now!”

The issue is now settled, with most BBC content, including Doctor Who, remaining on Netflix, according to THR.

space

This column was set up to present some of the very best shows the lovely people at TV Land have created. This next installment is about a British sci-fi sitcom where almost everyone dies in the first episode. There have been many sci-fi shows, many, many comedy programs and some sci-fi sitcoms. Additional: Red Dwarf is back! The Daily Mail announced that the Red Dwarf crew will be back next year. Thanks to impressive viewing figures last time out in “˜”Back To Earth”, a three-part special from 2009, British TV channel Dave will commission a new series. Shooting begins this autumn, lickety-split.

Red DwarfI’ve never seen an episode of Red Dwarf. I don’t even really have a clue what it is, aside from that it’s British and kinda weird looking. But I have a friend who loves it very dearly and it’s pretty popular, so I figured it’s worth sharing this news.

Red Dwarf cast member Robert Llewellyn made an announcement at the KTCS9 20th Anniversary shindig that a new one-hour special has been commissioned by the BBC Worldwide.

No word on the storyline, but the script is in its final stages.

The project should start filming in October 2008.
