It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Netflix users who are also fans of BBC shows. Word leaked out a little over a week ago that the contract between Netflix and the BBC to carry popular shows like Doctor Who, Luther, Black Adder, Sherlock, and Red Dwarf was up for renewal on February 1, 2015, but the two sides had not yet reached a deal! If the two sides did not come to terms, then Netflix would no longer carry BBC content after the end of this month. More than one article appeared on web sites warning everyone to “get that last bit of binge watching in now!”
The issue is now settled, with most BBC content, including Doctor Who, remaining on Netflix, according to THR.
See below for a list of the shows that were renewed on Netflix starting February 1, 2015.
Classic Doctor Who, 18 Collections
Copper, Seasons 1-2
Doctor Who, Seasons 1-7
House of Cards Trilogy
Keeping Up Appearances, Season 1
Luther, Seasons 1-3
Monarch of the Glen, Seasons 1-6
North & South
The Buccaneers
The Office (U.K.), Seasons 1-2
Torchwood, Seasons 1-4
Wallander, Seasons 1-3
An additional four programs will also remain on Netflix because they were never part of the renewal deal:
Sherlock
The Honorable Woman
Call the Midwife
Happy Valley
There’s some great content on these two lists that will warm the hearts of GoD readers.
Sadly, there was some bad news with the good. The following shows will expire on February 1, 2015:
Fawlty Towers
Blackadder
MI-5
Red Dwarf
There is no word as to exactly why these shows got the axe, but Red Dwarf and Blackadder will be especially missed by their fans here at GoD.
