BAADASSSSS!   |

The Interview starring Seth Rogen and James Franco

Oscar contenders? Controversy bait? Animated features? Horror classics in the making? Cash-in repackaging? Sounds like it’s time for another edition of The Digital Wire. This week’s roundup of Blu-ray and DVD new release announcements is eclectic to say the least.

Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon. We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power. The cover art for certain titles has yet to be finalized.

Fast & Furious

On March 24, 2015, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release the limited edition Fast & Furious 1-6 Collection on Blu-ray and DVD. Timed to the April 3 theatrical release of the franchise’s latest installment Furious 7, the set will include the first six films and their previously released bonus features along with a bonus seventh DVD that packs in an additional 100 minutes of features including:

Furious 7 Sneak Peek: The Plan

Fast & Furious 6 Justin Lin – Director’s Vault
Fast Cars! – Ride or Die: The Vehicles of Fast 6
Fast & Furious 6 Fast Cars! – The Tank: Metal Monster
Fast & Furious 6 Fast Cars! – The Flip Car: Weapon on Wheels

The set will also be housed in collectible racing tire packaging and include a $7.50 Fandango Cash voucher to see Furious 7 in theaters that expires on May 17, 2015, and a space inside the package to keep the sequel when it is released on Blu-ray or DVD (your choice).

The Theory of Everything

Recently nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor (Eddie Redmayne), and Best Actress (Felicity Jones), the critically adored Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment on February 17, 2015. Both editions will be supplied with the following extras:

Feature Commentary with Director James Marsh
Becoming the Hawkings
Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary by Director James Marsh

The Interview

Less than two months after almost inciting an international incident (or so the media told us) and then going on to smash Video On Demand records, the controversial comedy The Interview is already heading to home video from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The Seth RogenJames Franco feature has a preliminary release date of February 17, 2015 and will be available on both Blu-ray and DVD. Extra features have yet to be announced, but the audio commentary on this sucker will likely be pretty interesting.

Batman vs Robin

The next DC Universe animated feature Batman vs. Robin, a direct sequel to last year’s Son of Batman, will be released on Blu-ray and DVD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment sometime this spring. Supplements have yet to be announced but the voice cast will feature the talents of Jason O’Mara as Batman, David McCallum as Alfred, Sean Maher as Nightwing, Jeremy Sisto (the voice of Batman in 2008’s Justice League: The New Frontier) as Talon, “Weird Al” Yankovic as The Dollmaker, and Kevin Conroy (the voice of Batman on Batman: The Animated Series) as Thomas Wayne. Yankovic is no stranger to the animated DCU as he has previously voiced the title character in the short-lived Animal Man series.

Class of 1984

The cult classic Class of 1984 promises a violent, over-the-top thriller about a dedicated high school teacher (Perry King) battling a gang of antisocial punks (led by Timothy Van Patten) and boy oh boy does it deliver. From the director of Firestarter and Commando, Class boasts an impressive supporting performance from the late Roddy McDowall (Fright Night, Planet of the Apes), a young Michael J. Fox in a small early role, and Alice Cooper‘s rocking theme song “I Am the Future.” Scream Factory brings this epic of 1980s B-cinema to Blu-ray on April 14, 2015 in a Collector’s Edition release. Extra features have yet to be announced.

The Babadook

The year’s most acclaimed horror film, The Babadook will be released by Shout! Factory on Blu-ray and DVD on April 14, 2015. Extra features have yet to be announced. For now you’ll just have to suffice with the Blu-ray cover art.
