The Sarah Jane TARDISblend

We bid farewell to the wonderful Elisabeth Sladen, as The Sarah Jane Adventures concludes, with a story that includes an odd CEO of a big tech corporation that Sarah Jane and her companions must investigate. With some underhanded references to modern tech companies, we soon learn that the company is nothing more than a front for something far more sinister and disturbing.

During TARDISblend 45, we review the events of The Man Who Never Was, and pay tribute to Elisabeth Sladen in final adventure in the Whoniverse. Later we make a few recommendations for people to check out, both in earlier Sarah Jane episodes, and in the era of Classic Doctor Who.

All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

< Torchwood

The conclusion to Torchwood: Miracle Day has arrived, and finds the Torchwood team split into two groups – one heading to Shanghai, the other to Buenos Aires. They are tracking down the Triangle Families, and what they discover will lead them to the enigmatic Blessing.

Determined to remove their unethical hold on a newfound power, Torchwood makes their move against the Families – but the mission may cost them their lives this time, and for Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), the cost may very well be in blood.

During TARDISblend 38, we review the events of The Blood Line, and examine the outcome of Miracle Day for the Torchwood team, particularly the impact on Rex Matheson (Mekhi Phifer). We look into many unanswered elements of the series, including the mysterious Blessing, and how it may tie in to certain creatures below the surface of the Earth encountered in Doctor Who.

SDCC 2011: ‘Doctor Who’ Panel Provides Details For Upcoming Episodes & More!

San Diego Comic ConAs I write this post, I find myself quite envious of my TARDISblend co-host, Tom Cheredar, who was in attendance for the Doctor Who panel at San DIego Comic-Con this year.

In the famous Hall H, the panel began with grand fanfare, concluding with the Doctor Who theme blasting through the speakers as Matt Smith (the first ever Doctor to be nominated for a BAFTA Award) joined the stage — greeted with an almighty roar from the crowd… a beginning that gives a clear indication of how much bigger the 48-year old-series has become in the United States.

While David Tennant was a highly loved Doctor by U.S. fans, as a long-term fan I cannot recall a level of fandom appreciation for a current Doctor since the days of Tom Baker. It’s a clear indication that the series is currently in good hands, and that Smith is delivering not just to the expectations of showrunner Steven Moffat, but to fans on an international level as well.

Unfortunately Moffat was unavailable for the panel, but Smith was joined by his co-host Karen Gillan (who plays Amy Pond), producers Piers Wenger and Beth Willis, and writer Toby Whithouse.

First off, let’s get to some of the juicy tidbits about the upcoming episodes of Series 6 that was discussed by the panel…

Doctor Who

It’s been a big news week for Doctor Who, with some major announcements and rumors floating around the web about Series 7. The BBC has made a formal announcement that they have commissioned 14 new episodes for 2012, including a Christmas Special, which has become a tradition for the new era of Doctor Who.

Additionally, Steven Moffat and the BBC have also confirmed that Matt Smith will be continuing his role as the Doctor in Series 7 during 2012, following some silly rumors online that he was stepping down. With the official confirmation from the BBC, the rumors were put to rest… but that didn’t stop Moffat and others lay out some clues as to what else we might be seeing in Series 7.

Following the official announcements from the BBC, John Barrowman (aka Captain Jack Harkness from Torchwood) revealed in an interview with Zap2It that the return of Captain Jack to Doctor Who has been discussed between Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat. “I’ve always said that if I’m asked to go back to Doctor Who, I’ll go at the drop of a hat,” Barrowman says. “That’s where Captain Jack got his beginnings. And it’s already been discussed.”
