Bruce Willis has signed on to star in The Surrogates, the Disney/Touchstone big-screen adaptation of Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele‘s Top Shelf Comix series, according to Variety.
Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3) will direct the sci-fi thriller based on a screenplay by Michael Ferris and John Brancato. The writing duo, who also wrote the upcoming McG-directed Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, previously collaborated with Mostow on T3.
The story of The Surrogates takes place near future, where humans have become isolated and use android surrogates as a means of interaction with the outside world. Willis plays a cop who investigates the murders of other people’s surrogates via his own surrogate, but now he’s forced to leave his home for the first time in years to unravel a conspiracy.
The film, which is scheduled to start production in February 2008, will be produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, Brownstone Productions’ Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks, and Top Shelf Productions.
The dudes over at Top Shelf — proud publishers of The Surrogates — let us know that Venditti is midway through scripting the second installment in the graphic novel series, titled The Surrogates: Flesh and Bone, with
Weldele returning as artist. The new graphic novel is slated for a 2009
release.
Top Shelf sent the Geeks of Doom their sold-out 2007 Sampler book (which was awesome, so be sure to look for the 2008 version, it’s only 1 cent!), but you can still get in on their sale at the Top Shelf Seasonal Sample Sale page. There’s some great stuff, so grab ’em now before they’re all made into movies!
Since Pinkville is shut down, this will have to do. It sounds interesting.

I keep not picking up this book whenever I hit the local shop. I’m thinking… I’m gonna have to.
