Marvel Finally Reveals The Secret Identity Of The New Thor!

The Mighty Thor

Marvel stirred up the comic book world last summer when it was revealed that Thor the Odinson would no longer be worthy of wielding the magical weapon Mjolnir and that a woman would take his place as The Mighty Thor. Fans have since been wondering just who the true identity is of this mysterious new Thor ever since. Well, that long wait is finally coming to an end as Marvel has revealed to the New York Times just who was worthy.

If you’d rather wait to find out for yourselves in Thor #8, which hits shelves tomorrow, TURN BACK NOW as this news is too big to not talk about immediately.

SPOILER WARNING !!!!!!!

CONSIDER YOURSELVES WARNED !!!!!!!

All right, so who is the mysterious woman who is newly worthy? None other than Thor’s long time love, Jane Foster! Jane Foster has been a part of the Thor comic story nearly since the beginning. Of late, Dr. Foster and Thor haven’t been romantically involved, but have remained close. Foster is battling breast cancer as well, and The Odinson even checked in with Foster as he investigated who this new Thor is and decided she couldn’t be the new wielder of Mjolnir.

Written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Russell Dauterman, the new series featuring Foster as Thor has been a top 10 seller for Marvel and somewhat of a surprise in Marvel’s new strategy that diversifies the well-known characters of the Marvel universe. Aaron talked to the NY Times about what it’s been like writing Jane as Thor.

“Jane Foster has been part of the Thor comics and the Thor mythology from almost the very beginning,” Mr. Aaron said. “The very act of picking up this hammer, of becoming Thor, is killing her. Where we go from here is the real story. Most of the new readers seem to be women and young girls, which is great,”. You’re seeing more and more comics that appeal to that audience. Usually when I say I write comics for a living, I kind of get blank stares,” Mr. Aaron said. “Now, when I say I write Thor, they say, “˜You’re the lady Thor guy?’ Yup. That’s me.”

Are you (like me) excited to know that Jane Foster is fighting the good fight as the legendary Mighty Thor? This news could also add significant fuel to the fire that Natalie Portman, who plays Jane Foster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, could replace Chris Hemsworth as Thor after the events of the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok coming to theaters in 2017.

Meanwhile, be sure to keep up with the adventures of Foster as the Mighty Thor and the former wielder of Mjolnir, The Odinson, in Thor #8 on newsstands, at your local comic shop, and at online retailers tomorrow.

  1. Thank God, I’m so ready for this arc to be done.

  2. Why is that ? I am digging the story so far. God of Thunder was good but a little long winded in parts to me.

  3. Something tells me Natalie Portman doesn’t want to be tied to the MCU for another decade of her career. Unlike Peggy Carter or Pepper Potts, she hasn’t actually appeared anywhere outside of the “Thor” films.

  4. Because saying ANYONE else is Thor is a joke. Thor isn’t his hero name, it’s good birth name. It’s a stupid publicity stunt and I don’t have the words to express how happy I am that it’s done.
